Mobiveil Inc. and Crossbar Inc. Announce Partnership to Apply Mobiveil's NVMe Solid State Drive IP to Crossbar's ReRAM IP blocks
MILPITAS, CALIF. –– September 12, 2017 –– Mobiveil, Inc., a fast-growing supplier of silicon intellectual property (IP), platforms and IP-enabled design services and Crossbar, Inc., the ReRAM (Resistive Random Access Memory) technology leader, today announced a partnership to apply Mobiveil complete PCIe to NVMe set of solid state drive (SSD) IP to support the Crossbar, Inc., ReRAM IP blocks.
The companies will work together on a new ReRAM-based design from Mobiveil’s complete PCIe-to-NVMe set of SSD IP with Crossbar’s ReRAM enabling six-million 512B IOPS below 10us latency. The performance gain will enable ReRAM-based SSDs to significantly speed up access to frequently requested information in large data centers.
“We are excited to be partnering with Mobiveil,” says George Minassian, chief executive officer (CEO) and co-founder of Crossbar. “Being able to leverage the Mobiveil IP to develop an ecosystem supporting ReRAM-based SSD solutions will enable Crossbar to demonstrate the great strength our patented ReRAM technology offers over Flash. Crossbar’s ReRAM technology can be architected with small pages that can be independently erased or re-programmed. The result is a SSD that acts more like DDR memory than flash.”
Mobiveil CEO Ravi Thummarukudy states, “Mobiveil is delighted to engage with Crossbar to enable its ReRAM technology as an alternative SSD solution to what’s on the market today. Our silicon-proven NVMe, PCIe and DDR3/4 controllers can easily be adapted to accommodate the ReRAM architecture. Mobiveil’s NVM Express Controller is highly flexible and configurable design to unlock the current and future potential of PCIe-based SSDs. The controller architecture is tailored to optimize link and throughput utilization, latency, reliability, power consumption, and silicon footprint. It can be used along with its PCI Express controller (GPEX) and Crossbar’s ReRAM controller.”
About Crossbar ReRAM Technology
Crossbar ReRAM’s is a unique memory technology that can be integrated inside a system-on-chip (SoC) on standard logic CMOS manufacturing lines, or produced as a standalone memory chip. Compared to traditional flash memory, Crossbar ReRAM offers much faster, byte alterable, low power, erase-free operation. ReRAM drastically simplifies the complexity of the storage controller by removing a large portion of the background memory accesses required for garbage collection. It also eliminates the need in Flash designs to build memory arrays in large blocks that can be independently but atomically erased.
Crossbar ReRAM can be architected with smaller pages to reduce read and write latencies, lower energy and increased lifetime of the storage solutions. With ReRAM, designers can create entirely new subsystems –– from “persistent memory” that brings data closer to the CPU to “smart memory” for in-memory computing without a host CPU. Crossbar ReRAM is available for licensing at 40nm, enabling even higher density and more tightly integrated devices. Crossbar licenses its technology to SoC and memory companies as off-the-shelf or custom IP cores.
About Mobiveil’s NVM Express Solution
Mobiveil offers a complete subsystem design for accelerating PCIe SSD product development. At the center of this subsystem is its highly configurable and feature-rich NVM Express controller IP, UNEX, available with AXI interface for easy integration into FPGAs and SoCs targeting high-performance SSD solutions. Other IP components in the subsystem include highly configurable PCI-SIG certified PCI Express Gen3 (GPEX), DDR4/3 and ONFI Controllers. To enable faster product development for users, Mobiveil, with its overall IC and system expertise, also offers a complete FPGA development platform with a board support package and low-level drivers to validate the solution against their user applications.
About Crossbar, Inc.
Crossbar was founded in 2010 to commercialize a radically different approach to non-volatile memory called Resistive RAM or ReRAM. Crossbar is the leader in ReRAM technology, enabling kilobytes to terabytes of always-on data storage to be embedded into any processor, microcontroller, FPGA or as a standalone memory chip. Crossbar ReRAM lets designers rethink the compute/storage paradigm, free from the constraints of traditional flash and DRAM memories. From “persistent memory” that brings data closer to CPU to “cognitive memory” that enables in-memory computing without a host CPU, ReRAM is ushering in new era of data storage and processing for both edge and cloud computing.
