Nextera, Adeas, and intoPIX team up for 4K video over ST 2110
September 12, 2018 - IBC2018, Amsterdam, Netherlands - Nextera Video and Adeas, two leaders in the FPGA IP space, have teamed with intoPIX to demonstrate the industry’s first comprehensive FPGA solution for 4K video over IP using the new SMPTE ST 2110 standard. The 4K-Ready solution will be demonstrated at the upcoming International Broadcasters Convention (IBC 2018) in Amsterdam at the Nextera-Adeas Stand (8.E95) as well as the TICO Alliance Stand (10.D31)
This solution is unique in that it is the first commercially available FPGA core that provides a comprehensive solution for 4K@60P ST 2110 Video over IP. The solution includes hardware cores for ST 2110-10, 20, 21, 22, 23, 30, 31, 40, the award-winning TICO codec core from intoPIX, and a production quality ST 2059 Precision Time Protocol (PTP) module as well as software control cores for AMWA NMOS IS-04 & IS-05. The TICO core is SMPTE RDD35 compliant and may optionally be updated with a JPEG-XS compliant version, the latest emerging standard for compressed video in a broadcast environment.
The Nextera-Adeas solution has successfully passed the NAB and IBC interoperability events ensuring compliance with the standards, and will also be on display at the SMPTE/EBU/JT-NM IP Showcase (E106). Nextera-Adeas demonstrations at the showcase include a multi-format demo as well as a live IP switching demo using familiar SDI Router control panels.
“The SMPTE ST 2110 Standard has taken off in the broadcast video market, becoming the infrastructure of choice for many new installations from OB Vans to studios,” said Jed Deame, CEO of Nextera Video. “We are pleased to offer a complete FPGA core and reference design to enable fast time to market for our customers.”
“Broadcasters are really excited about TICO moving to JPEG XS standardization and the benefits of using it with the SMPTE ST 2110 standard,” says intoPIX CEO and Director of Technology Gael Rouvroy. “The standard is well positioned to deliver excellent performance leveraging off-the-shelf IT infrastructure. This is a game changer in video production, allowing interconnection of HD, 4K and 8K with COTS Ethernet switches.”
