intoPIX TICO-RAW technology to simplify and improve image signal processing of next-gen 4K & 8K cameras at NAB Show 2019
NAB Show - Las Vegas, April 8th 2019 – intoPIX, leading provider of innovative image and video processing technologies, are showcasing their TICO-RAW technology at NAB Show, a new technology that will drastically simplify the way we deal with raw image sensor data and production workflows.
Thanks to the technology’s innovative low-complexity processing and coding, the full power of the image sensor is preserved while significantly reducing transmission bandwidth, power-consumption and storage needs.
Other than commonly used codecs, TICO-RAW processes and codes the direct output of the image sensor, without applying a full de-bayering, thereby preserving the advantages of the captured RAW data – namely the chance to apply demosaicing algorithms, and the control over white balance, exposure, color grading, etc. – whilst file sizes remain at a very manageable level.
The new TICO-RAW IP-cores come with a pixel line latency, ultra-low memory usage, extremely low power consumption and can code anything from a HD to a large 8K sensor, up to 16bits down to 1bpp (16:1).
intoPIX’s Director of Marketing & Sales, Jean-Baptiste Lorent points out: “New cameras and new workflows are created to meet the demands for higher quality video. The power and flexibility of RAW can’t be ignored. However, without using smart processing and coding, bandwidth and file sizes exceed the limits of most of our devices, workflows and interface capabilities.”
TICO-RAW is a perfect solution for:
- Supporting 4K to 8K raw dataflows, higher frame rates and high dynamic range at a reasonable bandwidth with microsecond latency.
- Lowering power consumption thanks to a reduced bandwidth in the image processing pipeline and low-power and low-memory TICO-RAW processing.
- Retaining RAW properties while reducing image data on the storage media to the size of a JPEG image.
Visitors will be able to judge the codecs quality within a real editing workflow on intoPIX’s booth C8626 at NAB 2019.
