- Based on proven and licensable ZSP400 digital signal processing core
- Meets consumer product requirements by reducing cost, footprint and time-to-market
- Platform to be demonstrated with Spatializer™ Audio Enhancement Suite during the 2003 International CES
MILPITAS, Calif., January 7, 2002 – Addressing the increasing demand for advanced audio requirements in consumer electronic applications, LSI Logic Corporation today introduced a ZSP™ Digital Audio Platform, based on the proven open-architecture ZSP400 digital signal processor (DSP) core. The Digital Audio Platform will be demonstrated in a private suite during CES showcasing a number of streaming audio processing functions. The demo features audio software from ESPICO, Ltd. and the audio enhancement suite from Spatializer Audio Laboratories, Inc. New consumer electronic applications including Internet audio distribution and Digital TV are fueling the rapidly evolving audio market, driving requirements for support of multiple standards, new audio features and improved sonic audio quality. The ZSP Digital Audio Platform includes a complete, fully-certified software suite optimized for all digital audio standards required for DTV, DVD and DVD-Audio including AC-3, MP3, AAC, MPEG-1, -2 and audio enhancement post processing, providing the most cost-effective, high-performance digital audio solution in the market. Leading audio/video semiconductor companies have selected the ZSP Digital Audio Platform due to its superior audio performance and efficiency. Products using the Digital Audio Platform are expected to be available late 2003.
The ZSP400 offers system designers 16+32-bit data paths enabling superb audio quality while maintaining very dense memory footprint – the critical requirements in consumer products. All audio modules are compliant with the ZOpen® software framework, enabling streamlined application development by providing a standardized integration environment, multi-vendor algorithm interoperability and hardware abstraction. This software framework reduces time-to-market by decreasing integration efforts and leveraging off-the-shelf algorithms from ZSP application solution partners like ESPICO, Ltd. and Spatializer Audio Laboratories, Inc.
"The performance of the ZSP400 combined with the flexibility of the ZOpen software framework has made it very easy to design efficient audio algorithms for consumer applications," said Cliff Parris, Managing Director of ESPICO, Ltd. "ZSP licensees can expect consistent, proven results when integrating the Digital Audio Platform in their set-top box, DVD or digital television designs."
"Spatializer is delighted to enable LSI Logic customers with our new Spatializer enCompass algorithm along with the full range of Spatializer virtual surround sound and audio enhancement suite of products. The superb quality and compact ZSP400 digital audio subsystem is a ideal match for the Spatializer® product lines," said Michael Wood, Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer at Spatializer Audio Laboratories Inc.
