Accelerated Technology and MCCI Announce Nucleus Support in USB DataPump for Developing USB Peripherals
MOBILE, Ala., February 5, 2003 - Accelerated Technology®, Embedded Systems Division of Mentor Graphics Corporation (Nasdaq: MENT), and MCCI® (Ithaca, NY),
today announced the integration of the MCCI Universal Serial Bus (USB) DataPump® with the NucleusTM Real-Time Operating System (RTOS). Nucleus-based system developers now have an integrated USB solution for designing Nucleus-based USB peripherals such as the keyboard, mouse, joystick, scanner, printer and telephony devices.
The MCCI USB DataPump is a complete, portable firmware package that provides a total solution for engineers designing high-performance multi-function USB peripheral devices. Integration of the DataPump with the Nucleus real-time kernel and Nucleus prototyping software provides compatibility, performance, flexibility and stability to the designer of Nucleus-based systems. The combined technology supports a large number of USB device controllers and virtually any CPU that is supported by the Nucleus RTOS, allowing original equipment manufacturers (OEM) a simple integration path to a certified USB stack.
When the DataPump is combined with the MCCI Catena® firmware development platform and Nucleus RTOS support for micro-ITRON, a standard for embedded systems, this package also creates an excellent platform for developing micro-ITRON-based platforms.
"We have seen a huge increase in the use of USB in consumer based devices," said Robert Day, director of marketing for the Embedded Systems Division of Mentor Graphics. "Mentor and MCCI are addressing this by offering USB cores and software protocol stacks from Mentor's intellectual property division and additional software IP through Accelerated Technology's Nucleus RTOS and the MCCI DataPump."
"The complexity of USB system design is often underestimated," said Terry Moore, President and CEO of MCCI. "The combination of the DataPump with the Nucleus RTOS substantially simplifies the job of creating the highly intelligent PC companion products, from residential broadband to third-generation cellular phones. By using standards-based, field-proven software, our customers can focus on adding differentiating features, instead of worrying about basic functionality. With the Nucleus MNT technology and Catena, products can be prototyped and applications can be developed and tested well in advance of receiving actual hardware prototypes."
