Atmel Launches a Comprehensive Range of Royalty-Free Embedded Internet Connectivity Solutions
Nantes, France - February 17, 2003 . . . Atmel® Corporation (Nasdaq: ATML) announced today the availability of microcontrollers with built-in capabilities that enable user applications with direct internet connectivity. The @Web family currently comprises of 8-bit C51 Flash MCUs. @Web products provide an extended range of options to easily connect numerous embedded Internet applications such as industrial appliances or building and home automation equipment, to a wide variety of physical networks such as PSTN, GPRS, LAN and serial links.
An @Web Software solution for TCP/IP PSTN and GPRS Modem is based on a free protocol stack that can be implemented within the Flash microcontroller application program. This solution speeds product development, avoids expensive external components and enables easy and cost-effective implementation of internet services such as HTTP, FTP or SMTP. The ATWebEVK-01 Evaluation Kit, priced at $249, allows system designers to evaluate the full range of options available in integrating TCP/IP software into Atmel C51 Flash MCUs.
@Web Hardwired TCP/IP Ethernet solutions comprise a chipset based on Wiznet TCP/IP hardwired IC and Atmel Flash MCU. These high-speed LAN solutions offer easy implementation of any internet service, connectivity to 10 or 100 Base-T Ethernet interfaces and complete application support with source code. To support product development, a complete development kit, ATWebDVK-02, at $269 is available. Also there are a number of application modules available including Network Web Camera (ATWebDVK-02WC at $899), Voice Transmission (ATWebDVK-02VOIP at $629) and a Remote Power On-off Control (ATWebDVK-02RC at $379).
An @Web ready-to-plug Internet module (ATWebSEG-32) is also available to connect an application to an Ethernet Gateway through RS232, significantly reducing development time. It allows real-time data processing by hardware stack protocols (TCP, UDP, IP, ARP, ICMP, DLC, MAC…), without the need for RTOS or changes to your existing application. Pricing is $29.99 for quantities between 50 to 1,000 units. An Evaluation Kit, the ATWebEVK-05, supports this ready-to-plug Internet module. Pricing is $189 each.
"The @Web devices enable the upgrade of user applications without design change, directly benefiting from the Atmel Flash Self-Programming MCU technology. Additionally, while most competitors rely on the third-party approach with royalty-based products, Atmel @Web products are available with royalty-free TCP/IP protocols", said Manish Vadher, Marketing Director for Microcontrollers. "With this comprehensive range of embedded internet connectivity options, Atmel is clearly committed to supporting customers in this growing market segment, with a wide range of cost-effective solutions".
