Samsung Licenses ARM Microprocessor Cores; Agreement Enables Samsung to Target 800MHz Standard Products
CAMBRIDGE, England and SEOUL, South Korea, July 16 /PRNewswire/ -- ARM [(LSE:ARM); (Nasdaq:ARMHY)], the industry's leading provider of 16/32-bit embedded RISC microprocessor solutions, and Samsung today announced that Samsung has licensed the ARM926EJ-S(TM), the ARM946E(TM) and the ARM1020E(TM) microprocessor cores for use in its System-on-Chip (SoC) devices.
Samsung will use the new ARM® microprocessor cores in its roadmap products for mobile computing, networking, media and printer applications. It will also use the ARM cores to provide complex SoC solutions to customers developing their own devices. In particular, the ARM1020E core will be used to implement standard products based on Samsung's advanced 0.13micron high-performance process.
``Samsung has a proven track record in delivering custom ARM core-based SoC and standard SoC products, especially in imaging and mobile computing applications. In addition, Samsung has been making recent inroads into the networking space,'' said Warren East, chief operating officer, ARM. ``The combination of the ARM10(TM) family design with its 64-bit features and the Samsung advanced process means an 800MHz standard ARM product becomes a reality.''
``Our partnership with ARM is entering a new phase. With over one hundred design-wins for our standard mobile computing platform, the time has come to move on and broaden our range of ARM core-based capability,'' said Hyung L. Roh, executive vice president, System LSI Division, Samsung. ``With the addition of the ARM926EJ-S and the ARM946E cores, we will rapidly strengthen our offering into our mainstay markets. The ARM1020E core offers an exciting opportunity to capitalize on the huge investments we have made in process technology and develop some high-end business.''
