MIPS Technologies Licenses 32-Bit MIPS32 4Kc Core to IDT for High-Growth Communications Market
MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 16, 2001-- MIPS Technologies, Inc. (Nasdaq: MIPS, MIPSB - ), a leading provider of industry-standard processor architectures and cores for digital consumer and networking applications, today announced it licensed its 32-bit MIPS32(TM) 4Kc(TM) processor core to IDT (Nasdaq: IDTI), a leading communications IC provider.
The 4Kc core will be used by IDT to develop high-performance, system-on-a-chip (SoC) designs for the high-growth communications market. IDT will target various applications, such as line-powered office gateways/routers, Ethernet switching and storage area network systems.
``IDT and MIPS Technologies have had an extensive licensing relationship for more than 13 years, both from a CPU core and an instruction set perspective,'' said Phil Bourekas, vice president of Internetworking products at IDT. ``Licensing the 4Kc core provides a performance upgrade path for existing customers utilizing the RISController product family and enables IDT to focus its design efforts to deliver added value in the peripherals that surround the core itself.''
``Our long, successful history with IDT has led to a number of innovative, high-performance, cost-effective solutions for a variety of embedded applications,'' said Derek Meyer, vice president of worldwide field operations at MIPS Technologies. ``We are delighted to further expand the relationship with our 4Kc synthesizable core, which will enable IDT's customers to rapidly deploy high-performance, 32-bit systems, while accessing the hundreds of development tools and software that support MIPS products.''
