LSI Logic speeds design of energy efficient LSI403LP DSP solutions with all-inclusive development kit
Industry's most comprehensive, professional DSP development kit incorporates full-featured hardware and software tools
Milpitas, Calif., May 28, 2003 - LSI Logic Corporation (NYSE: LSI) today introduced a feature-rich Developer's Kit (DK403) to its family of ZSP™ digital signal processor (DSP) products. The DK403 integrates a high-performance evaluation board, full-version software development tools, a board support package, example source code, tutorials and complete documentation, making it the most comprehensive DSP development kit available in the industry today. Based on the extremely low power LSI403LP standard product, the ZSP developer's kit is value priced below the cost of competing industry software tools alone.
"The LSI Logic DK403 is a true, professional kit for serious DSP evaluation and design with access to complete tools, libraries and a high-performance evaluation board," said Brian Carlson, marketing manager of LSI Logic's DSP Division. "With its integration and ease-of-use, engineers can quickly develop their applications and verify them in real-time before their actual product hardware is available."
LSI Logic's release of the DK403 provides programmers a comprehensive package for evaluating the ZSP400 DSP core, rapidly prototyping a design that includes the LSI403LP DSP standard chip or creating software for a product already based on the LSI403LP DSP. Saving engineers the difficulty of having to piece together multiple products such as boards, software and libraries, this inclusive kit provides step-by-step instructions, tutorials, and example software. The DK403 also includes real-time, demonstration software that showcases the MASC™ (Managed Audio Sound Compression) codec from Vianix Corporation and an MP3 audio decoder from ESPICO, Ltd.
The DK403 software includes the full-version, unlimited usage LSI Logic Software Development Kit (SDK) with optimizing C compiler, assembler/linker, instruction and cycle-accurate simulators, programming utilities and a graphical debugger. New SDK features include data graphing and an enhanced, integrated development environment that supports Windows and Solaris. For flexibility in software tools selection, the full-version Green Hills Software MULTI tools are also provided for 30-day evaluation.
The DK403 hardware includes an EB403 evaluation board with a 150 MHz LSI403LP DSP, SRAM, SBSRAM and flash memory, and a multi-channel (5.1) audio codec daughtercard with support for S/PDIF digital audio and a microphone input. The EB403 also provides a target USB 1.1 interface for high-speed data streaming, an RS-232 interface for console applications and a JTAG interface for debugging. Extreme flexibility is provided to design engineers with access to dual daughtercard interfaces, a host port interface and a prototyping area. The collective hardware and software enable the DK403 to play the dual role of a real-time software development platform as well as a system-level prototyping platform when combined with additional hardware.
