connectBlue delivers the world’s first qualified Bluetooth SIM Access Profile software
Malmo, Sweden - June 10, 2003 - connectBlue has delivered the world's first qualified Bluetooth SIM Access Profile software, developed initially for one of its customers, THB Bury, Germany. The SIM Access Profile utilizes a Bluetooth link between a mobile phone's SIM card and an external device to enable seamless transfer and operation of SIM information.
The automotive industry has already expressed interest in the new profile with initial applications expected to focus on a built-in car phone receiving information from a user's mobile phone SIM card. Rolf Nilsson, President at connectBlue said, "In this case the car phone connects via Bluetooth to the SIM card in the driver's personal mobile phone, enabling the driver to access his phone book and make and receive calls on the car phone, even while his mobile phone is still in his briefcase. This allows him the freedom of hands-free operation with the added benefit of better reception due to the car phone's external antenna.
"As there is no SIM card in the car phone, calls are billed to his personal mobile account just as if he was using his own phone. This type of application is likely to be of interest to car rental companies." Nilsson believes that the SIM Access Profile also has potential for applications within the medical industry.
"A SIM card has long been seen as a viable device for secure data storage. For instance, data relating to a patient's medical statistics, captured from a medical monitoring device could safely be stored on a mobile phone SIM card," he said.
connectBlue's SIM Access Profile software is fully Bluetooth qualified and immediately available to product developers.
