picoTurbo Licenses Microprocessor Cores to eSilicon Corporation
Innovative partnership delivers RISC cores through fabless ASIC provider for full-service, advanced ASIC and SOC designMILPITAS, Calif. (July 9, 2001) – picoTurbo, a leading provider of synthesizable RISC microprocessor cores and Turn-key IP™ solutions, today announced it has licensed two microprocessor cores to fabless ASIC company eSilicon Corporation to enable full-service integrated circuit (IC) design services for a broad range of embedded applications.
Under the terms of the licensing agreement, the pT-100 and pT-110 microprocessor cores from picoTurbo will become part of eSilicon's intellectual property (IP) library, providing eSilicon with powerful microprocessor solutions for enhanced system-on-a-chip (SOC) designs and application specific integrated circuits (ASICs).
eSilicon will provide all of the steps of IC design, verification and production of advanced SOCs and ASICs containing the pT-100 and pT-110 cores, which are responsible for key microprocessor functionality in wireless, portable, consumer, networking and other embedded applications.
"picoTurbo's microprocessor core technology is a very valuable addition to our IP portfolio," said Jack Harding, chairman, president and CEO of eSilicon. "These fully synthesizable cores can be easily integrated into our design flow. By combining the performance and features of picoTurbo's cores with our advanced design methodology, we will be able to provide valuable ASIC-to-COT design solutions for several market applications."
In addition to expanding the picoTurbo customer and partnership base to include fabless ASIC companies, the partnership enables picoTurbo customers that require full-service IC design, including design, testing, procurement, packaging and manufacturing, to utilize eSilicon as a full-service provider of IC solutions.
"eSilicon has demonstrated innovation in the silicon industry with the new fabless ASIC model," said Chip Stearns, president and CEO of picoTurbo. "With eSilicon's exciting and unique approach, this new partnership for full ASIC and SOC design solutions allows picoTurbo to help bring to market innovative eSilicon chip designs powered by our most popular microprocessor cores."
The pT-100 and pT-110 cores licensed by eSilicon are immediately available for customer designs.
