ViewAhead Technology Integrates ARC International USB Now (TM) IP Into 3rd Generation Print Controllers
Optimized Development Platform Enabled Design Team to Focus On Value-Added Features
SAN JOSE, Calif., September 08, 2003 – ARC International (LSE: ARK), a world leader in user-customizable processors, silicon peripheral IP, real-time operating system and development tools for embedded system design, announced today that the ViewFleX500TM, a digital imaging SoC by ViewAhead, is the first product on the market to utilize USB NowTM IP. Introduced in June 2002, USB Now IP is the first IP product to provide a fully-integrated platform consisting of the ARCtangentTM synthesizable CPU core, USB 2.0 host/device core with On-The-Go (OTG) technology and embedded software stacks. The USB Now solution combines some of ARC’s most popular building blocks into a pre-integrated and pre-tested development platform that minimizes the amount of time it takes and minimizes the risk to develop new technology. ViewAhead is one of the first companies to license the USB Now platform in the last half of 2002 and is the first company to bring a product to market based on this platform.
“Because of the small size and previous integration provided by the USB Now development platform, ViewAhead spent its time and silicon budget on application specific innovation,” said RanDair Porter, president and CEO of ViewAhead Technology. “Leveraging our design expertise in I/O flexibility and image processing, our solution offers OEM customers a flexible, dynamically reconfigurable product that can be targeted at multiple applications.”
“Customers no longer have the luxury of working with multiple IP vendors, if they plan to beat their competition to market,” said Mike Gulett, president and CEO of ARC International. “By providing integrated development platforms like the USB Now, ARC can enable truly innovative new products like the ViewFleX500. Because ViewAhead could focus efforts on its value proposition, they introduced a product with superior performance and outstanding features. OEMs benefit from the overall reduced development cost and faster time to market.”
In addition to reducing design risks, the USB Now platform configures many items in firmware that competing solutions cast in hardware. This flexibility enables a single silicon implementation to track with evolving market demands, or to service multiple USB applications without change to the silicon. These unique, pre-integrated and field tested features reduce the cost and risks associated with design re-spins, and result in reduced silicon area and smaller code footprint.
