ULi Standardizes on Denali for PCI Express Design Verification
Engineers at ULi are now using Denali’s PureSpec™ product to model and simulate the PCI Express interface between ULi’s chip designs and other PCI Express compliant devices. The solution automatically monitors the PCI Express traffic, and enables ULi engineers to verify the correct operation of the PCI Express interface in its chip designs. Potential bugs are exposed early in the development cycle before the designs are implemented in silicon, saving valuable development and validation time.
The PCI Express architecture is a new serial interconnect technology that replaces the current AGP and PCI-X interface standards in the next generation of computing applications. ULi, a subsidiary of ALi Corporation, is playing a key role in enabling PCI Express technology with the introduction of its first PCI Express chipsets for mobile, desktop applications targeted for 2004.
“As a leader in the chipset market, we are driven to provide our customers with the highest quality solutions that leverage emerging technology such as the PCI Express interconnect standard,” said Mr. Alex Kuo, president of ULi, Inc. Through our collaboration with Denali, we are able to achieve a very high-quality verification environment for developing our PCI Express interface designs while maintaining an aggressive time-to-market schedule. Using Denali’s PureSpec product in our development flow gives us complete confidence that our designs are compliant with the PCI Express standard, and interoperable with other PCI Express implementations.”
“The rate at which PCI Express technology is being developed is very impressive, we could see a dramatic impact on the PC Industry as early as 2004,” said Denali vice president of marketing Kevin Silver. “Our role is to provide industry leaders such as ULi with tools for designing and verifying chips that incorporate the PCI Express standard. A key part of this enablement is ensuring that these chip designs are interoperable with other PCI Express devices. Widespread use of the PureSpec product in the industry enables our customers to coordinate verification efforts and achieve pre-silicon interoperability verification. We are pleased to be working with ULi and look forward to their successful launch of PCI Express enabled chipsets.
About PureSpec
PureSpec is a verification IP product used by chip designers to simulate, and verify PCI Express design interfaces. PureSpec models all devices in the PCI Express topology, including the root complex, switch, endpoint, and PCI Express to PCI bridge. Within PureSpec, all protocol layers (physical, data link, transaction) of the PCI Express specification are completely modeled and can be simulated simultaneously or used separately. The product contains thousands of assertions that are monitored during simulation to ensure compliance with the PCI Express specification, and interoperability with other PCI Express devices. Injected errors and error conditions are also flagged and recovered according to PCI Express specifications. The PureSpec product is built on the proven product architecture of Denali’s MMAV product, which has been used to verify complex memory interfaces for thousands of successful designs, and provides seamless integrations to all popular EDA tools and verification languages. Proven product platform, dedicated customer support, and unmatched EDA modeling and verification expertise make PureSpec the best-in-class verification IP solution for PCI Express designs. The PureSpec product is available now for customer evaluation at: www.denali.com/purespec
