Corelis Announces JTAG Emulation Support for the Xilinx Virtex-II Pro FPGA PowerPC 405 Core
Corelis' CodeRunnerJTAG Debugger directly supports the multiple PowerPC 405 processors included within the Xilinx Virtex-II Pro FPGAs.
Cerritos, CA, September 15, 2003 - Corelis introduced today a family of JTAG emulators for the Xilinx® Virtex-II Pro™ FPGA PowerPC® 405 Core with unprecedented code download speed. With Xilinx Virtex-II Pro FPGAs, designers can quickly architect, customize, and automatically generate custom PowerPC 405 processor systems. To enhance the productivity afforded by this innovative design methodology, Corelis has added direct support for Xilinx Virtex-II Pro FPGAs through their CodeRunner™ JTAG Debugger that was validated using the Virtex-II Pro development board from Insight Electronics.
Xilinx Virtex-II Pro FPGAs include up to four PowerPC 405 processors connected to the fabric. Corelis' CodeRunner Debugger is a powerful JTAG-based emulation tool that was designed, from the ground up, specifically for these multiprocessor embedded core designs. The CodeRunner Debugger effectively partitions the individual processor's hardware and software resources into a multi-windowed environment that provides for ultimate clarity, hence increasing productivity in the areas of board bring up, driver/firmware development, and software application debugging.
The CodeRunner Debugger offers many advanced features, reaching far beyond the robust "run-start-stop" control that has made JTAG based debuggers so popular. In addition to its many breakpoint facilities, CodeRunner offers an extensive macro and scripting capability and can interpret command files written in a structured "C"-like language. CodeRunner works with all popular C/C++ cross-compilers that generate DWARF, ELF, or Stabs debug information. This allows for the greatest flexibility and cost reduction when selecting development tools. Corelis JTAG emulators are available with PCI, PCMCIA, USB 2.0, Parallel Port and Ethernet JTAG controllers, to provide flexibility when designing host and target environments.
To meet the needs of today's most demanding throughput applications, Corelis has recently developed a new boundary-scan controller architecture, based on the proprietary "Turbo Scan Engine". With the ability to implement complete programming algorithms directly in hardware, and the ability to provide a sustained test clock (TCK) frequency reaching 80 MHz, boundary-scan controllers like the PCI-1149.1/Turbo™ are seen to achieve unprecedented throughput with file download speeds exceeding 1 Megabytes/sec when used with the Virtex-II Pro FPGA PowerPC 405 Core.
Corelis continues to offer a variety of solutions for JTAG-based (IEEE 1149.1) Test, and In-System programming of CPLDs, FPGAs and Flash memories using the same hardware connection as used for JTAG-based Emulation, thus further reducing the cost of development.
"For today's complex designs, a multitude of tools are used during a typical project and it is important to integrate these capabilities as much as possible to minimize the impact on product development and also offer the performance and cost necessary," said Jim Rodgers, technical marketing engineer at Corelis. "Our direct support of Xilinx Virtex-II Pro FPGAs through our CodeRunner Debugger, advanced boundary-scan controllers, and ScanPlus™ JTAG-based Test and In-System programming tools, offers both hardware and software engineers a unified and premier solution for those designs that demand the absolute highest level of testability, visibility, and throughput."
