Faraday SIP Mall Poised to Alter the Course of Online IP Trading
HSINCHU, Taiwan – Sept. 9, 2003 – Faraday Technology Corporation (TAIEX: 3035), a leading provider of ASIC design service and silicon-proven IP has unveiled its newest online IP trading platform, the Faraday SIP Mall on September 9th, 2003 at Faraday Forµm in Hsinchu, Taiwan.
Faraday SIP Mall provides a full array of IP eBusiness services including IP Sales, IP Management, Customer Management, and IP Qualification & Gradation.
Even before its official launch, Faraday SIP Mall already attracted many major players in the IC industries as its members. Companies and institutions such as MIPS, SIS, Novatek, KTC, National Taiwan University, and National Chiao Tung University have already uploaded their IPs to this platform.
Faraday SIP Mall is currently developing a Qualification System based on the standard set forth by the IP Qualification Alliance in Taiwan. The standard is comprised of design guidelines, verification guidelines, and deliverable guidelines. The purpose of these guidelines is to raise the standard of IP reusability.
Having a close partnership with the major foundry like UMC (NYSE: UMC), Faraday SIP Mall already holds more than 120 silicon-proven IPs. This enables Faraday SIP Mall to supersede other IP related eBusiness sites and bring out the real value of IP reuse.
"UMC is pleased to work with Faraday in its SIP Mall project. With the help of Faraday, and our other IP partners, UMC will continue to enrich Faraday SIP Mall's IP database by adding a variety of hard core, soft core and firm core." said Jackson Hu, CEO of UMC. "Our goal in the next two years is to provide the IC designers an easy access to all the UMC graded IPs through SIP Mall. In doing so, we can provide greater value and competitiveness for our customers."
"As far as IP industry is concerned, there are very little truly reusable IP in the market. Yet, IP industry continues to grow in double digits despite the increasing difficulty in design complexity and cost of R&D research." said H.P. Lin, president of Faraday Technology Corporation. "The biggest challenge in the IP industry is that there are no correlation between its price and value. By setting up a platform with measurable standard where IP quality can be rated is the answer to this challenge". However, Mr. Lin also pointed out that IP providers must continue to develop quality IP at low cost, with complete solution that accommodates customers' needs.
By collaborating with the government, industry leaders, and educational institutions, Faraday SIP Mall is hoping to create synergy that eventually alters the course of online IP trading process.
