Virage Logic Strengthens its Support for the Japanese Electronics Market
Appoints Director of Japan Business and Establishes Dedicated Customer Support
TOKYO, Japan and FREMONT, Calif., October 8, 2003 – Virage Logic Corporation (Nasdaq: VIRL), a leading provider of best-in-class semiconductor Intellectual Property (IP) platforms, today announced it is strengthening its support for the Japanese electronics market with the appointment of Richard (Dick) N. Lanham as Director of Japan Business, as well as establishing a dedicated customer support function based in Japan. Lanham brings 30 years of electronic design automation (EDA) and semiconductor IP business experience in Japan and long-standing relationships with such market leaders as NEC, Fujitsu and Toshiba to Virage Logic. The addition of a dedicated customer support function builds on the direct sales office Virage Logic originally opened in Japan in 2002.
“Japanese electronics companies play a major role in the global consumer electronics market and many of these companies are increasingly relying on Virage Logic’s Technology-Optimized semiconductor IP platforms as their single source for silicon-proven IP,” said Adam Kablanian, CEO and president, Virage Logic. “I am delighted to have someone of Dick’s caliber join us to lead our team in Japan. His extensive experience in the Japanese electronics market will enable us to better meet the needs of the country’s leading integrated device manufacturers (IDMs). Under his leadership, I am confident we will be able to provide our Japanese customers with an even stronger competitive advantage as they compete in the global electronics market.”
“I am very pleased to join a company that has a proven track record of delivering innovative technology and superior customer support,” said Lanham. “I look forward to further developing the partnerships Virage Logic has established with such Japanese market leaders as NEC, Fujitsu, Kawasaki, Oki, Rohm, Sharp, Sony and Toshiba to enable them to deliver even more innovative products. And, our establishment of dedicated customer support in Japan underscores our commitment to our customers in this important market.”
Virage Logic is working closely with major IDMs in Japan to facilitate the integration of the company’s IP platforms into their designs, drive their designs to market more rapidly and help them gain a competitive edge. The growth of Japan’s business is essential to Virage Logic’s overall business goals and is expected to eventually account for 20 percent of the company’s business revenues.

Lanham is responsible for all of Virage Logic’s business activities in Japan, reporting directly to Raj Singh, vice president of worldwide sales. Prior to joining Virage Logic, Lanham spent 30 years in various senior sales management positions at the worldwide and North American levels for major and startup EDA companies.
Most recently Lanham was responsible for global account management of Toshiba, Fujitsu and NEC for Cadence Design Systems.
