Virage Logic Announces Multi-Year Agreement with LSI Logic for 90-nm Embedded Memory IP
FREMONT, Calif., November 3, 2003 — Building on a successful alliance with LSI Logic Corporation (NYSE: LSI), Virage Logic Corporation (Nasdaq:VIRL), a leading provider of best-in-class semiconductor IP platforms, today strengthened its relationship with LSI Logic with a 90-nanometer (nm) multi-year agreement. Under the terms of the agreement, LSI Logic has licensed Virage Logic’s silicon-proven embedded Self-Test and Repair (STAR) Memory SystemTM and its Area, Speed and Power (ASAP) MemoryTM product lines.
According to Ronnie Vasishta, vice president of Technology Marketing and CoreWare Engineering at LSI Logic, “Embedded memory is becoming increasingly important as more of our customers increase the amount of memory on a chip. Following the success of our RapidChipTM Platform ASIC using Virage Logic’s patented ASAP LogicTM Metal Programmable Cell Libraries, we expanded our partnership with Virage Logic to include its embedded memory products across our 90-nm product line. This engagement accelerates delivery of our 90-nm products to service the needs of our leading-edge customers and enables us to provide robust and innovative embedded memory solutions through a combination of internal memory expertise and external partnerships.”
“With LSI Logic’s proven ability to design and manufacture advanced, complex ASIC solutions and our expertise in designing and delivering silicon-proven embedded memories, we are able to provide customers with a superior system-on-chip (SoC) design solution on advanced processes such as 90-nm,” said Adam Kablanian, president and CEO, Virage Logic. “Our expanded partnership provides customers with a tremendous competitive advantage as they develop highly differentiated products.”
Virage Logic’s expertise in the embedded memory market enables designers to reduce overall system cost and size, while meeting time-to-market requirements by integrating small, moderate or large amounts of on-chip memory. Increasingly complex chips require greater amounts of memory, which poses significant yield issues at the time of manufacture. And, as more memory is added on-chip, obtaining optimal-yielding SoC solutions for high-growth applications can be achieved through the company’s STAR Memory System. In addition, Virage Logic’s ASAP Memory product line is ideal for high-volume applications where area-efficient memory implementation is a requirement. It is also optimized for speed, yet consumes less power than other high-speed memories, making it an excellent choice for high-performance computing and networking applications.
