StarGen to use Rambus RaSer PHY for Advanced Switching Interconnect Products
StarXpress(TM) family of Advanced Switching switches and bridges to utilize Rambus PCI Express 2.5Gbps PHY
Los Altos,CA - November 10, 2003 - Rambus Inc. (Nasdaq:RMBS), the leading provider of chip-to-chip interface products and services, and StarGen, a semiconductor company that supplies advanced serial switched interconnect solutions, today announced that StarGen is using Rambus's RaSer PHY IP in the development of its StarXpress(tm) product line, based on the forthcoming Advanced Switching (AS) standard. The StarXpress family of switches will provide high-bandwidth serial switched solutions for next-generation storage, server, communication and embedded system designs."Our family of scalable Advanced Switching products will provide flexible port count and width configurations based on 2.5Gbps PCI Express lanes. The small area, low power RaSer PHY solution is ideal for these types of applications," said Tracy Richardson, president and co-founder of StarGen. "We were impressed with the depth of Rambus's expertise and demonstrations of its PCI Express PHY cell silicon driving the same backplane and connector environments used in next generation AdvancedTCA-based platforms."
The Rambus PCI Express PHY design has been proven in PCI Express-based systems, which were recently demonstrated at the Intel Developer Forum in September 2003. Additionally, Rambus provides engineering services to its customers for chip integration, package, board and system characterization, as well as test, in order to ensure success in the development and bring up of PCI Express-based chips and boards.
"StarGen is helping to lead the architectural development of the next generation industry-wide standard interconnect -- Advanced Switching," said Kevin Donnelly, vice president of the Logic Interface Division at Rambus. "Our engineering teams are supporting their teams in solving interconnect bottlenecks across the storage, server, communications and embedded marketplaces by providing high-value solutions compatible with industry standards."
About StarGen
StarGen is a semiconductor company providing advanced serial switched interconnect solutions for compute and communications equipment. It is the leading designer of low-overhead, protocol-agnostic, open standards-based serial switched architectures, which enable system designers to bring new capabilities to their system while using existing standards-based parts. StarGen's currently shipping StarFabric product line benefits vendors of access communication platforms for voice, data, and video networks as well as vendors of embedded systems needing enhanced switched PCI capability. StarGen is also currently developing StarXpress, a complementary line of products built upon the Advanced Switching standard and compatible with PCI Express(tm). These products will be ideal solutions for blade server, storage, and mid-range communications applications. StarGen's switched interconnect products provide a dramatic increase in equipment performance, scalability, reliability, and Quality of Service while maintaining backward compatibility to existing standards based hardware and software.
