SAN DIEGO Qualcomm Inc. has signed a licensing agreement with France Telecom to license its turbo coding technology for use in CDMA chipset designs. Turbo coding is an essential error correction technique for the development of both 3GPP and 3GPP2 third-generation (3G) wireless systems. In order to make its technology more readily available, France Telecom established a single licensing approach in 2001 that allowed chip set vendors and system houses to tap into the technology. Qualcomm did not disclose when the first chip sets implementing the turbo coding technology would hit the market.
