RTOS Industry Leaders Recognize Virtex-II Pro PowerPC and Microblaze as Leading FPGA Processing Solutions
Eight AllianceEmbedded Partners offer Broadest RTOS support for Xilinx
embedded solutions
SAN JOSE, Calif., November 25, 2003 - Xilinx, Inc. (NASDAQ:XLNX), today announced it has expanded the company's AllianceEmbedded program to include four more best-in-class real-time operating system (RTOS) software vendors. With the addition of Express Logic, Inc., QNX Software Systems Ltd., Micriµm Technologies Corporation and Mind NV to the program, Xilinx customers now have access to the industry's broadest offering of third-party supported RTOS software solutions for Xilinx Virtex-II Pro™ PowerPC and MicroBlaze™ embedded processor solutions.
The AllianceEmbedded Program also includes Accelerated Technology Inc. (division of Mentor Graphics), MontaVista Software, Inc., Wasabi Systems and Wind River Systems.
"We are very pleased with the comprehensive RTOS support given by our AllianceEmbedded members," said Jerry Banks, director of global alliances at Xilinx. "Together with our partners, Xilinx is offering embedded software engineers and system architects optimal flexibility for optimizing their designs for high end and cost-sensitive applications."
Third Party RTOS Support for Xilinx Soft and Hard Embedded Processors
With the expansion of the AllianceEmbedded program, software developers and system architects can leverage Xilinx soft and hard core embedded processor solutions more easily. The Xilinx MicroBlaze 32- bit processor core offers unparalleled cost and performance for a soft processor, delivering 68 Dhrystone-MIPS at 85 MHz in the Spartan-3™ FPGA and 125 Dhrystone-MIPS at 150MHz in the Virtex-II Pro™ FPGA. For cost-sensitive applications, the MicroBlaze soft processor core in a Spartan-3 XC3S1000 device can be implemented for an effective price of $0.73*. Developers interested in targeting applications ranging from automotive infotainment, medical instrumentation, music and video storage to ADSL modems and industrial control, can now utilize Accelerated Technology's Nucleus®, Express Logic's ThreadX®, or the Micriµm µC/OS-II RTOSs.
Developers requiring even higher performance can target the popular IBM PowerPC® 405 processor embedded in the Xilinx Virtex-II Pro FPGA which delivers over 600 Dhrystone-MIPS at 420MHz. Users of Wind River Systems VxWorks®, MontaVista Linux, QNX Neutrino®, Wasabi Systems NetBSD or the Mind eCos RTOSs can utilize the PowerPC processor's performance for markets including networking, automotive, communications and medical systems.
