Mentor Graphics Offers NewLogic Bluetooth Intellectual Property in Platform Solution
San Jose, Calif.; January 23rd, 2002 - Mentor Graphics Corporation and NewLogic, a leading supplier of Bluetooth(TM) design solutions, today announced a marketing agreement that allows system-on-chip designers to license Bluetooth silicon intellectual property from the Mentor Graphics(R) Inventra(TM) Intellectual Property division. The cores are available as part of a new, easy-to-integrate Bluetooth Platform from Mentor Graphics that features CPU bus wrappers and interface bridges for the Bluetooth core to other IP cores such as USB 2.0 and Ethernet.
The NewLogic Bluetooth BOOST(TM) IP family includes a Baseband processor and a full Bluetooth software protocol stack. These IP elements, when combined with a suitable microcontroller core, permit the implementation of a single-chip Bluetooth solution using industry-standard CMOS process technologies.
The Bluetooth standard ensures wireless connectivity between different Bluetooth-compliant devices over a personal area network on the 2.4GHz radio frequency at a range of ten meters. Bluetooth is capable of data transmission up to a maximum capacity of 720kbps per channel and has been adopted for use with mobile phones, wireless headsets, card-readers, printers, scanners, CD-players, pagers, MP3 players, digital cameras, PC's, PDA's and other portable devices.
"The BOOST IP family can be rapidly integrated into an SoC design through this new platform provided by Mentor Graphics," said Maha Osman, chief operating officer, NewLogic. "Mentor Graphics has a reputation for high-quality IP cores and strong SoC support services to ensure that licensees can easily integrate a Bluetooth solution in a time-sensitive application."
To further enable rapid integration of the Bluetooth cores into a SoC design Mentor Graphics provides CPU bus wrappers and interface bridges required for the Bluetooth cores that interconnect with other communications IP such as I2C, UART, USB2.0, PCMCIA, and Ethernet, which are also part of the Inventra IP portfolio.
"Mentor Graphics is recognized as a leader in providing connectivity standards-based IP solutions to the communications market," said Dr. Susheel Chandra, general manager, Inventra Intellectual Property division, Mentor Graphics. "From USB 2.0 to Ethernet, and now to Bluetooth, we continue to offer a portfolio of silicon IP that is pre-tested for reliability, easy to integrate and measured to a high standard of quality."
