Synopsys Obtains PCI-SIG Compliance Certification For PCI-X Core
TOKYO, Japan--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 22, 2001--In conjunction with IP 2001 Japan, Synopsys, Inc. (Nasdaq:SNPS), the technology leader for complex IC design, today announced the PCI Special Interest Group (PCI-SIG) certification of the DesignWare® PCI-X MacroCell. Enabling rapid adoption of PCI-X, the Synopsys successfully passed the PCI-X 1.0 compliance tests sanctioned by PCI-SIG, the official body defining the PCI-X specification. With high performance and ease-of-use, the PCI-X core is a new silicon-proven offering in DesignWare, Synopsys' comprehensive multi-use royalty-free IP library.
``After evaluating other PCI-X solutions, we selected the Synopsys DesignWare PCI-X MacroCell as the best choice for our design needs,'' said Brian Wilkie, corporate vice president and general manager of Motorola's Computing Platform Division. ``The DesignWare PCI-X solution not only enables tight integration with our Synopsys synthesis and verification flows but also provides us with a DesignWare PCI-X core that is certified by the PCI Special Interest Group, which greatly reduces our compliance risks. We feel confident that the quality of this high performance, synthesizable core will help us be successful in developing our next generation product.''
The DesignWare MacroCell is a configurable, synthesizable PCI-X core designed specifically for fast, easy integration into System-on-Chip (SoC) designs. The complete PCI-X solution includes a full verification suite and the coreConsultant tool. This complete package enables design teams to easily integrate PCI-X technology into next-generation products and provides existing DesignWare PCI core users a very simple and smooth upward transition from PCI to PCI-X. Design teams with subscriptions for the DesignWare library may use any DesignWare IP, including the new PCI-X core, as many times as needed with no royalties, additional fees, or additional contract negotiations. This frees the design teams to focus on building market-leading products, instead of evaluating, negotiating, and acquiring individual IP blocks.
The PCI-X specification defines a flexible 32/64-bit architecture, with multiple, simultaneous bus transfers and a 4X speed improvement over PCI. The DesignWare PCI-X core is backward compatible with the PCI 2.2 standard, allowing PCI-X designs to function correctly in both PCI-X and PCI systems. The DesignWare PCI-X core is targeted at high performance applications such as networking, graphics, multimedia, and mass storage devices.
Pricing and Availability
The PCI-X core (encrypted version) is available in limited production for no additional charge to DesignWare customers. A DesignWare one-year subscription license begins at $19,900 per year plus maintenance and support. The DesignWare PCI-X source code products are priced at $100,000 for a perpetual license.
