ZiLOG Announces New RZK Real Time Kernel; Offered With Award-Winning eZ80Acclaim! Microcontroller and Microprocessor Families
User-Configurable System Provides Scalable Building Blocks for Prepackaged Embedded Application Software
SAN JOSE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 28, 2004-- ZiLOG, Inc. (OTCBB:ZILG), a global supplier of 8-bit micrologic devices, announced today the introduction of company's new real-time RZK operating system for its award winning eZ80Acclaim!(TM) family of microprocessors and microcontrollers.
The new RZK is a real-time, pre-emptive, multitasking kernel that manages the use of the CPU and is designed to enable efficient processing of all time-critical tasks. Scalable and modular in design, the RZK kernel provides an extensive feature set and easy-to-use Application Programming Interfaces (APIs).
The new operating system features pre-built object modules. This modular design concept is designed to eliminate the need to redesign or re-engineer common features, and according to Burger, "simplifies the design process and aids design engineers in their efforts to get products to market much faster."
"Our RZK kernel is built and optimized for the eZ80(R) core," said Burger. "Now our customers will be able to use our embedded software technology to achieve even greater system reliability and performance. There also are no product deployment quantity restrictions because there are no royalties to pay."
The new system enables cooperative and time-slice scheduling, provides fast 12 microseconds context switching, requires less than 18KB of ROM and is fully user-configurable. It is supplied as a C library module with required source and header files. It is compatible with ZDS II, ZiLOG's Integrated Development Environment that provides compiling, debugging and project-building tools for quick and efficient embedded application development. Sample applications that demonstrate the use and functions of the RZK object libraries are included.
The eZ80(R) architecture supports linear memory space up to 16MB, and has dual CPU register sets for fast context switching and real-time event handling. Combined with its high-performance design, the eZ80Acclaim!(TM) family is well-suited for larger applications requiring the additional reliability and robustness of a real-time operating system.
