Wipro Technologies licenses its USB 2.0 software IP to Wind River
Bangalore, February 2, 2004 -- Wipro Technologies, a leading provider of technology solutions for the networking and connectivity markets, today announced the licensing of its USB 2.0 host software stack to Wind River, a worldwide leader in embedded software solutions. Wind River today stands as the clear leader worldwide in integrated, embedded software solutions and has a roster of customers that include global giants like NASA JPL, HP, Siemens VDO, Sony, and Honda.
"The USB 2.0 host stack is a key, supplementary technology for Wind River customers in industrial and digital consumer markets who are building embedded devices - digital TVs, set-top boxes, process control equipment and more - that need USB 2.0 host functionality to connect to other USB 2.0 peripheral devices. By working with Wipro, Wind River is able to offer Wipro’s thoroughly tested and interoperable USB 2.0 host stack, cores and software customized for inclusion in Wind River Platforms," said Bill O’Such, engineering director for Wind River Systems. "Today, Wind River announced the first of several platforms that integrate Wipro’s USB 2.0 host stack technology, providing customers with all of the necessary foundational software they need to build more efficient devices with optimized connectivity."
The USB 2.0 host stack IP licensing agreement gives a boost to the existing relationship between the $ 240 million Wind River Systems and Wipro Technologies.
“We are proud to be associated with Wind River, the worldwide market leader in embedded software and services.. Wind River’s confidence in Wipro’s USB software Intellectual Property (IP) is a further proof of the high quality and performance of our IPs. This IP licensing deal further enhances our leadership position in the wired connectivity space,” said Mr Ramesh Emani, Chief Executive of Wipro’s Embedded and Product Engineering Division.
Wipro has backed up its USB 2.0 host stack software IP licensing with extensive customization support. Wipro will also help Wind River in integrating the IP in their design.
The USB 2.0 technology is driven by the market need for high-speed data transfer between personal computers (PCs) and high performance peripherals. This technology is ideally suited for high bandwidth applications like digital cameras, DVDs, mass storage devices, printers, scanners and a host of other peripheral devices.
Wipro is a leader in the Semiconductor IP space, with IP solutions for both wireless as well as wired connectivity. Wipro offers IPs compliant with IEEE1394 (a&b), 802.11 (a, b & g), USB and Ethernet. This suite of IPs is well complemented by the one of the largest embedded solutions and VLSI design team worldwide.
