Mysticom Semiconductor, JAE Electronics and Gore partner to double the copper reach of IEEE 802.3 10GBASE-CX4 compliant links to 30 meters
MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., February 4, 2004 – Mysticom Semiconductor, a leading supplier of high speed communication integrated circuits (ICs), JAE Electronics and W. L. Gore & Associates, Inc. today announced at the DesignCon 2004 Conference in Santa Clara, California (Booth #124) the industry's first demonstration of 10 Gbps data transmission over 30 meters of InfiniBand™ copper cable. This extended data transmission distance and superior performance doubles the reach of IEEE 802.3 10GBASE-CX4 compliant copper links from the specified 15 meter distance to 30 meters. The real life tests confirmed that Mysticom's MY3124 XAUI to CX4 Retiming Transceiver together with JAE Electronics and Gore's copper cable assembly provide an effective and reliable low-cost solution that doubles the specified distance of 10GBASE-CX4 for applications that previously relied on optical cabling, further accelerating the deployment of 10G Ethernet.
The test setup at the DesignCon 2004 conference includes end-to-end 10GBASE-CX4 compliant communication links running error-free over 30 meters of the JAE/Gore CX4 copper cable assembly. The two MY3124 XAUI to CX4 Retiming Transceivers exchange a variety of IEEE802.3 10GBASE-CX4 compliant data patterns (including the most stressful CJPAT) simulating a real time network environment.
"We are pleased to be able to work with Mysticom in the development of higher performing CX4 links," states David Dillon, product manager for Gore. "By combining JAE's wealth of connector knowledge, our years experience in cable design and termination, together with Mysticom's superior chip technology, we can better meet the needs of our customers now and in the future."
"By combining the knowledge and experience of JAE, WL Gore and Mysticom in the development of high speed 10GBASE-CX4 interconnect solutions, we have been able to achieve many improvements in both performance and quality for our customers," states Jim Balistreri, Industry Marketing Manager for JAE. "Through our continued efforts, we hope to bring even more improvements in the future."
"The widespread deployment of Gigabit to the desktop coupled with the increasing demands for networked storage have created a need for cost effective 10 Gigabit uplinks and interconnects in the enterprise and the data center," said Wiren Perera, Mysticom's Vice President of Marketing. "Our partnership with JAE Electronics and Gore has allowed us to provide a robust, cost effective solution for extended copper reach and push 10 Gigabit price-performance to a new realm."
About the Mysticom MY3124
The MY3124 is a XAUI-to-XAUI Retimer device that has two identical 10 Gigabit Attachment Unit Interfaces (XAUI). The device has programmable data rates with an operating range from 1Gbps up to 3.1875Gbps. The MY3124 is intended to drive extended distances for point-to-point communications in applications requiring 10 Gigabit over copper and fiber links.
The device is well suited for stackable switch, chassis-to-chassis, and switch-to-server system inter-connections. The device features Mysticom's unique Signal Quality Index that is used in conjunction with adaptive line-conditioning software to fine tune five signal link parameters for optimal system performance.
