Green Hills Software's High-Reliability Real-Time Operating System to Support IBM's PowerPC 970FX
SANTA BARBARA, CA—April 22, 2004 — Green Hills Software, Inc., the market leader in embedded software development tools and royalty-free real-time operating systems (RTOS), today announced INTEGRITY RTOS support for the award-winning PowerPC 970FX microprocessor from IBM Microelectronics.
INTEGRITY is the only RTOS that guarantees hardware resources and real-time performance to developers creating applications on the IBM PowerPC 970FX for network storage, networking, high-end graphics, mission-critical military systems and other compute-intensive markets.
"We are teaming with Green Hills Software to deliver a solution based on our high-performance PowerPC 970FX processor with the AltiVec processing engine, the INTEGRITY RTOS, MULTI IDE, Green Hills Probe and optimizing compilers," said Ray Bryant, director of PowerPC products, IBM Systems and Technology Group. "Our customers can benefit from an end-to-end solution for our embedded 64-bit PowerPC platforms."
The INTEGRITY RTOS is one component of a royalty-free solution, widely used by developers on the IBM PowerPC 405 and 440 processors.
Based on IBM’s award-winning POWER4 architecture, the new PowerPC 970FX processor achieves high system performance with a dual-channel front-side 1 GHz processor bus and very fast hyper-transport interconnections. The device gives developers 64-bit computing power while assuring legacy support by running 32-bit applications natively.
Optimized RTOS and Software Development Environment
INTEGRITY features full memory and application protection and guaranteed resource availability for critical tasks. At the same time, INTEGRITY’s modern architecture guarantees true real-time performance with fast interrupt response times and rapid context switching. INTEGRITY conforms to 2003 POSIX.1 and also features field upgrading/debugging and dynamic task downloading which are valuable for communication and networking applications. This combination of security and fast, predictable response times makes the royalty-free INTEGRITY RTOS the ideal target environment for PowerPC 970FX-based compute-intensive networked products.
The INTEGRITY RTOS is tightly integrated with Green Hills Software's MULTI IDE which includes a kernel-aware source-level debugger for multi-processor configurations, program builder, run-time error checker, performance profiler, version control and editor. In addition, MULTI offers an enhanced integrated instruction set simulator that models the 970FX’s cache and estimates cycle counts. Green Hills Software’s compilers consistently produce the smallest and fastest code for embedded applications based on the PowerPC processor family, as certified by EEMBC Certification Laboratories, LLC.
The following are key features and benefits of the Green Hills solution:
- Royalty-free licensing eliminates per-unit cost.
- Source code to board support package and communication stacks is provided at no charge giving developers more source code control and visibility.
- INTEGRITY conformance to 2003 POSIX.1.
- Memory protection of user data, the kernel, device drivers and user tasks.
- Complete integrated networking solutions for IPv4/v6, IPSec, Secure Web, Firewall and more.
- Fastest certified embedded PowerPC compiler including full AltiVec support.
- Green Hills Software JTAG hardware debug probes in an easy-to-use, single source solution.
The MULTI IDE with Optimizing C and C++ compilers for the IBM 970FX is available today starting at $5,900 USD. INTEGRITY support is planned later this quarter.
