Faraday's USB 2.0 OTG IP Cores Receive USB-IF OTG Compliance Certifications
Hsinchu, Taiwan – May 31, 2004 - Faraday Technology Corporation (TAIEX: 3035), a leading fabless ASIC service and silicon proven IP provider, announced its USB 2.0 On-The-Go (OTG) Intellectual Property (IP ) cores have received USB-IF (USB Implementers Forum, Inc.) On-The-Go (OTG) compliance certifications. Featuring easy-integration and high-compatibility, Faraday’s USB 2.0 OTG IP cores offer the most favorable and efficient solution for designers as they develop integrated circuits enabling data exchange amongst PCs, information appliances and handheld devices without the need of PC host systems
.
Faraday’s USB 2.0 OTG IP cores solution consists of two major IPs, the physical-layer (PHY) IP (FZOTG230) and the controller IP (FOTG200). Tested in an operating environment with an ARM-based platform interfacing with an AMBA bus and integrated with Faraday’s in-house developed OTG stack and application software, this solution allows boundless customization opportunities to achieve device-to-device connectivity amongst MP3 players, set-top boxes, printer servers, mobile HDDs, multimedia mobile phones, data storage, networking and communication devices.
“ We are very excited about this design achievement. As an IP and ASIC service provider, our designers have collaborated with key players in the PDA, MP3, DSC, DV, storage devices and other hot areas to implement all of the latest features being requested by manufactures and design houses. This achievement will enable a quick path to market for these and many other types of devices. ” said C. J. Liang, R & D Associate VP at Faraday.
Faraday’s FOTG200, an USG 2.0 OTG Controller IP, has been certified to achieve data transmission rates of 480Mbps. The FZOTG230, an USB 2.0 OTG High Speed PHY IP, supports UTMI+ Level 3 and can be used in host, device or dual-role applications. Both IPs are available for design-in. Faraday has been ready for providing IP core’s deliverable package includes all backend views (GDSII, place and route abstracts and timing information), as well as a simulation model with a quick start testbench and extensive documentation covering specifications, testability, assembly and production guidelines.
More information
Faraday USB 2.0 OTG Controller IP (FOTG200)
The FOTG200 core is a fully synthesizable dual-role controller macrocell that supports both host and peripheral functions in a single package. Faraday’s FOTG200 is a Universal Serial Bus (USB) 2.0 On-The-Go (OTG) Controller with dual-role capabilities as a host and device controller.
As a host, it provides a USB host controller that supports all speed transactions. Without software intervention, the host controller can deal with transaction-based data structures to offload the CPU and automatically transmit and receive data on a USB bus.
As a device, each endpoint, except endpoint 0, accepts programmable HS / FS transfer types. This provides flexibility suitable for all kinds of application. The OTG standard compliance means both Session Request Protocol (SRP) and Host Negotiation Protocol (HNP) are supported.
The system bus is a PVCI AMBA AHB 32-bit bus or RISC 51 interface. The transceiver interface is UTMI+ level 3, which supports HS / FS / LS transfers without a hub.
Faraday USB 2.0 OTG PHY IP (FZOTG230)
The FZOTG230 is a Universal Serial Bus (USB) transceiver that provides a complete range of host and peripheral functions. It is fully compliant with USB specifications for version 2.0. In high-speed mode, this device is capable of transmitting or receiving data at the speed of 480Mbps.
