Xilinx Ships New Release Of System Generator For DSP Development Tool With Full Support For Latest MatLab & Simulink Software
SAN JOSE, Calif., June 2, 2004 -- Xilinx, Inc. (NASDAQ: XLNX) today announced availability of the new version 6.2 release of the Xilinx System Generator for DSP development tool that fully supports the MATLAB 7 and Simulink 6 software packages also introduced today as part of The MathWorks Release 14. Furthering Xilinx's XtremeDSP initiative, System Generator v6.2 also provides performance and database enhancements that make it easier for designers to build sophisticated digital signal processing (DSP) systems with Virtex™-II Pro and Spartan -3 series FPGAs.
"FPGAs are being used at an increasing rate to implement real-time signal processing functions because they offer very high performance and extraordinary flexibility through hardware customization and reprogrammability," said Ken Karnofsky, marketing director for Signal Processing and Communications at The MathWorks, Inc. "Xilinx continues to be the industry innovator in this domain, and our ongoing collaboration is creating momentum in the DSP marketplace for both companies, most notably with FPGA-DSP pre-processing and co-processing applications."
"We are defining the way people think about FPGAs for DSP, and our new release of System Generator continues to set the standard for tool performance and productivity," said Jerry Banks, director of Worldwide DSP Solutions Marketing at Xilinx. "MATLAB and Simulink are integral components of the Xilinx ecosystem for signal processing. Supporting the latest software release from MathWorks is an important link in the system, and we made this a priority with our v6.2 release."
System Generator for DSP Tool
System Generator automates the design, debug and deployment of FPGA-based signal processing systems with push-button performance. Systems architects, DSP engineers, and hardware designers can model complete DSP systems in an integrated system-level design environment. In addition to the industry's richest simulation libraries for high level modeling and automatic code generation, System Generator provides a high-speed HDL co-simulation interface to the ModelSim simulator from Model Technologies, Inc.
Other unique capabilities include MATLAB m-code compilation, fast system-level resource estimation, and high-speed hardware co-simulation interfaces, both a generic JTAG interface and PCI-based co-simulation for FPGA hardware platforms. Used by hundreds of companies worldwide, System Generator targets a broad range of applications, including cellular base stations, wireless infrastructure, high-performance radar, medical imaging, test and measurement equipment, automotive entertainment and safety systems, security, and industrial factory automation.
MATLAB & Simulink R14 Compatibility
System Generator for DSP automatically translates a DSP system developed using MATLAB and Simulink into highly optimized hardware description models and intellectual property cores for Xilinx FPGAs. Xilinx's v6.2 release and The MathWorks R14 software, released coincidentally, together represent the state-of-the-art design technology for FPGA-based DSP systems.
MATLAB 7, a high-level technical computing language and interactive environment for analyzing data and developing algorithms, includes major advancements in the areas of programming and code efficiency, plotting and visualization, mathematics, data access, and performance. Simulink is a platform for multi-domain simulation and model-based design of dynamic. Simulink 6 improves performance, responsiveness, modeling fidelity, and workflow efficiency when modeling large systems.
Xilinx XtremeDSP Initiative
The Xilinx XtremeDSP initiative represents a major commitment by Xilinx to address the need for high-performance DSP solutions. The Xilinx DSP solution comprises unique DSP features in its Virtex-II and Spartan-3 series FPGAs. These include up to 556 "hard" 18x18 multipliers, over 10 megabits of block and distributed memory, pre-engineered DSP algorithms, system-level DSP development tools, and a rapidly growing network of Xilinx AllianceCORE™ and XPERT partners who provide DSP intellectual property cores and design services.
Pricing & Availability
The System Generator for DSP v6.2 tool is used with the Integrated Software Environment (ISE) 6.2i FPGA design suite from Xilinx. It is shipping today priced at $1,995 if purchased alone. Pricing packages available when purchased with Xilinx customer training programs.
