Cellular Handset Applications Developers Benefit from Nucleus RTOS Support for Texas Instruments' OMAP Platform
MOBILE, Ala., June 23, 2004 - Accelerated Technology®, the Embedded Systems Division of Mentor Graphics Corporation (NASDAQ: MENT), today announced the availability of the Nucleus® real-time operating system (RTOS) for Texas Instruments' (TI) OMAPTM1610 platform. The integration of the Nucleus software and TI's OMAP1610 applications processor will give cellular handset applications developers a full-featured, high-performance solution in which to develop differentiated 2.5G and 3G multimedia-enhanced mobile devices and software applications.
TI's OMAP1610 processor, a single-chip application processor that supports all cellular standards, consists of both an ARM9 (TI926EJ-S) and a digital signal processor (DSP) (TMS320C55x) core. Based on TI's OMAP platform of power-efficient applications processors, the OMAP1610 significantly advances multimedia performance required for mobile applications like video and gaming. Combined with the scalable and solid Nucleus RTOS, members of TI's OMAP developer network will have the robust solution they need to design feature-rich multimedia capabilities for cellular devices.
The Nucleus PLUS kernel, the basis of the Nucleus family of products and a widely accepted kernel for building cellular phone applications, is ideal for the feature-rich capabilities that customers require from their multimedia applications. The reliability and performance of the Nucleus PLUS kernel have led to its wide acceptance in the cellular market. Other available Nucleus components for the OMAP1610 processor include the Nucleus POSIX application program interface (API), the Nucleus InterProcess Communication (IPC) software and the Nucleus FILE file management software. In addition, Accelerated Technology's royalty-free business model makes the Nucleus software especially attractive to the high-volume handset market, as the royalty-free solution enables manufacturers to reduce costs that would normally be passed on to their customers.
"When Texas Instruments introduced the OMAP1610 processor last year, it raised the applications performance bar by delivering manufacturers even greater software flexibility and robustness," said Paul Werp, TI Director of Marketing, Cellular Systems Software. "By integrating the Nucleus software with the OMAP1610 processor, TI continues to enable dynamic multimedia applications and to revolutionize the mobile communications experience."
"The cellular market is transitioning from low-cost, voice-only handsets to handsets which are rich with features such as multimedia, cameras and email," said Robert Day, director of marketing, Mentor Graphics Embedded Systems Division. "The proven reputation of the Nucleus RTOS in the cellular phone market combined with a full suite of middleware provides a solid foundation on which to build feature-intense handset applications."
The Nucleus embedded software is sold with source code and without royalty fees. Licenses for the Nucleus software begin at $12,495. For more information, please contact Accelerated Technology at 800-468-6853.
