Altera Cyclone Devices Selected for AMX Modero ViewPoint Touch Panels
Altera Enhances Functionality, Reduces Development Time for Innovative Wireless Control Products
San Jose, CA, July 12, 2004—Altera Corporation (NASDAQ: ALTR) today announced that its low-cost Cyclone™ devices are being used by AMX Corporation (NASDAQ: AMXC), a worldwide leader in advanced control system technology, to implement advanced image processing functions for its award-winning Modero ViewPoint™ (MVP) touch panels. The MVP touch panels provide wireless user interface capability in a wide variety of consumer and commercial applications, including residences, presentation facilities, military operations, classrooms, and entertainment venues.
“Altera products have played an important role in making the MVPs the most powerful and innovative solutions in their class,” said Peter Nohrén, vice president of engineering for AMX. “Altera’s Cyclone FPGAs integrate advanced processing capabilities, which are important for the wide range of business and consumer applications that the MVPs support. In addition to providing the best device option, Altera’s solution also included PCI and memory interface intellectual property which reduced our development time.”
The Altera solution enabled AMX to engineer and manufacture the MVPs in the shortest amount of time, helping them meet an aggressive development schedule and offer industry-leading capabilities ahead of their competition. “Altera has a very strong relationship with Arrow Electronics, whom we utilize in managing the AMX supply-chain program. This partnership was important in the selection of Altera and enabled AMX to significantly reduce its time-to-market,” said Carl Evans, vice president of operations for AMX.
The image processing and graphics generation functions that AMX implemented in Cyclone FPGAs contribute to the stunning graphics, rich colors, and pinpoint on-screen clarity delivered by the MVPs.
“Today’s consumers require advanced solutions like the AMX MVPs that enable them to manage and simplify increasingly demanding digital lifestyles,” said Todd Scott, senior director of Altera’s digital consumer and broadcast business unit. “Altera’s products enable industry innovators like AMX to exercise maximum development flexibility so they can deliver their products to market quickly and at the lowest cost, which is critical for this fast-moving market.”
