Transdimension brings its embedded USB host solution to new HP ALL-IN-ONE Device
IRVINE, Calif., July 12, 2004 - TransDimension, a leading provider of USB connectivity solutions for embedded applications, today announced that its UHC124 host controller and SoftConnex USBLink Host software will be used to support the PictBridge protocol in the HP PSC 1315 All-in-One Printer, Scanner, Copier.
"TransDimension has focused on USB solutions that enable peripheral interconnectivity," said Mike Holt, vice president of marketing, TransDimension. "We are very proud that our USB hardware and software solutions have been implemented in the HP PSC 1315 All-in-One since the adoption of our technologies by the world's leading printer manufacturer clearly demonstrates consumer demand for advanced printer connectivity and further validates our USB connectivity leadership."
With the incorporation of PictBridge, the HP PSC 1315 All-in-One enables users to print directly from PictBridge-compliant digital still cameras without the use of a computer. When used in this manner, the HP PSC 1315 All-in-One functions as a USB host, while the digital still camera operates as a USB peripheral.
"HP is pleased to be working with TransDimension to add PictBridge compatibility to the HP PSC 1315 All-in-One," said Philip C. Schultz, vice president and general manager of All-in-One, Consumer Imaging and Printing Group, HP. "As digital photography moves mainstream, HP strives to deliver greater choice, control and convenience, giving consumers the best overall photography experience. TransDimension, through their USB expertise and comprehensive system-level knowledge of embedded platforms, has contributed a quality USB solution to our efforts."
TransDimension's USB host solution consists of hardware and software components. The hardware component is the UHC124, which is a low-cost, four port, USB 2.0 compliant host controller ideally suited for embedded systems. By utilizing a simple MCU 8 bit data interface, developers can easily design in the UHC124 with any CISC or RISC microprocessors, micro-controllers or digital signal processors (DSPs). Its small 64-pin package and unique features that balance USB data throughput with low CPU utilization enable USB host functionality to a variety of embedded applications. With a large 2K data buffer, the UHC124 also supports all four USB transfer types and maximizes USB data throughput.
The software component of TransDimension's USB host solution is the SoftConnex USBLink Host stack, which is comprised of the host controller driver layer, USB protocol layer and a class module framework. The host controller layer is responsible for driving full and high-speed host controllers, while the protocol layer enumerates USB devices and simulates a plug-and-play environment with the host operating system when the USB supports external devices. All USB transfer types are supported, as are complex USB devices that contain multiple configurations, interfaces and alternate settings. The USBLink Host class drivers are responsible for driving each type of device, such as Bluetooth baseband modules, printers, digital still cameras and MP3 players.
About TransDimension
Headquartered in Irvine, California, TransDimension is a privately held company founded in 1997 to develop and market solutions targeting peripheral connectivity. TransDimension's product lines include the integrated circuits, IP cores and USB software stacks that enable direct connectivity for a wide range of PC peripheral applications and mobile devices. Until now, these products have required an indirect means, such as a PC host, for exchanging data. TransDimension's SoftConnex USB software is a complete software solution for USB, including the broadest OS and CPU platform support and the largest library of peripheral class drivers available.
