QuVIS to Implement ASIC International's Encryption IP Block in New Digital Cinema Chip
OAK RIDGE, Tenn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 26, 2001--ASIC International (``Ai'') today announced that QuVIS, Inc. (Topeka, KS) will use Ai's Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) and other cryptography intellectual property (IP) blocks in a new videoCOmpression/DECompression (``CODEC'') chip.
QuVIS, a leading provider of digital motion imaging technology, will use the AES block in a chip that will provide motion image processing with digital cinema quality. QuVIS' chip will use AES to ensure that all the content it processes is secure. The new chip will help reinforce QuVIS' market-leading position in digital cinema by providing even greater security while delivering pristine, digitally mastered movies directly to theaters.
``Ai's extensive experience with encryption made them the obvious choice when QuVIS decided to outsource that part of its video CODEC,'' said Kenbe Goertzen, president and CEO of QuVIS. ``Security is of prime importance to studios and movie content owners particularly as we are now delivering content in the form of high-quality digital masters. Embedding AES encryption in our chips is a key part of our multi-layered approach to conditional access.''
The National Institute for Standards and Technology (NIST) recently endorsed AES as the standard cryptography algorithm for the future. Leading cryptographers from around the world have chosen AES for its high degree of security, performance, efficiency, ease of implementation and flexibility.
