Global UniChip Adds Kilopass' Memory Technology to Design IP Portfolio
Update: Synopsys Expands DesignWare IP Portfolio with Acquisition of Kilopass Technology (Jan. 10, 2018)
New technology uses standard CMOS processes, supports post-manufacturing programming
Sunnyvale, California and Hsinchu, Taiwan - July 27, 2004 - Kilopass Technology, Inc., a fast growing memory technology Intellectual Property (IP) provider, announced today that Global UniChip Corp. (UniChip), a full service SOC design foundry, has signed a corporate agreement with Kilopass to add Kilopass' embedded non-volatile memory (NVM) technology, XPM, to UniChip's IP portfolio. In addition, UniChip has joined Kilopass Technology's Design Services partner program.
By adopting Kilopass' unique and silicon-proven NVM technology, UniChip's customers can realize the benefits of post-manufacturing programming of non-volatile memory implemented in standard logic CMOS processes, such as 0.18um and 0.13um.
"Kilopass XPM technology offers an affordable solution for our CMOS customers who need post-manufacturing, late-stage, programming flexibility, commented Jim Lai, COO and President of Global UniChip Corp. "
"We are delighted to establish this partnership with UniChip," remarked Dr. Jack Peng, founder, President and CEO of Kilopass Technology. "UniChip has a strong team of industry veterans with the necessary experience and capabilities customer seek in SOC design service providers. They will help accelerate the adoption of our XPM technology into designs created for high volume products."
Kilopass XPM Advantages
Kilopass XPM configurable permanent memory technology shifts the electronic system design paradigm away from ordinary CMOS ROMs. Its ease of manufacturability, common CMOS process requirements, scalability, and low cost, are advantages that address SOCs applications such as digital consumer, media distribution, and those using custom ASICs, especially with embedded MCUs and associated program code previously stored in ROM.
Other benefits include: post-manufacturing configuration of XPM technology for low- to medium-density embedded ROM replacements, code storage, SOC configuration or trimming bits, and user-specific content or data distribution.
Kilopass Intellectual Property Design Services Partner Program
UniChip is among Kilopass Technology's design services partners. Through the program, members offer their customers a proven path to incorporate and deploy the XPM memory technology from Kilopass, and their customers benefit from a proven deep-submicron design flow from system specifications, full functional and physical design and verification to tape-out as well as prototypes (via shared wafer products) to meet their production and volume goals.
About Kilopass
Kilopass Technology Inc. was founded with the mission of becoming the industry leader in embedded non-volatile memory technology (NVM). The Company's Super Permanent Memory (XPM) technology is manufactured using standard commercial CMOS process without any modification. It is used in a wide range of storage capacity, ranging from a few bits to multiple megabits. XPM is an excellent solution for electrically field-programmable code storage, embedded security keys and IC configuration parameters. Kilopass Technology's XPM products are targeted to the advanced Customer Owned Tooling (COT) and Application Specific Integrated Circuit (ASIC) markets and are available for leading foundries and process geometries.
