Daewoo Selects LSI Logic Dimension Processor for DVD/VCR Recorder Product Line
- With combination DVD/VCR recorder, consumers benefit from digital recording to DVD disc, while maintaining investment in VHS tapes
- DiMeNsion™ 8602 processors allow OEMs to reduce overall system cost, design complexity, and time-to-market through its high level of system integration
- Reduced total system cost enables consumer-friendly price points, spurring DVD/VCR recorder adoption rate and market growth
MILPITAS, Calif. - September 20, 2004 - LSI Logic Corporation (NYSE: LSI), a leader in multimedia processing for the Digital Home, today announced that Daewoo Electronics has developed its latest DVD/VCR recorder product line based on the second-generation LSI Logic DiMeNsionTM DVD recorder system processor, the DMN-8602. A leading provider of DVD/VCR combination devices, Daewoo selected the DiMeNsion processor for its high level of system integration, which reduces overall system cost, design complexity, and time-to-market.
"By leveraging the DMN-8602, we are able to continue our tradition of bringing high-quality DVD/VCR combination products to consumers," said Mr. Song Ki Min, director of Digital Video R&D Center in Daewoo Electronics. "In a single space-saving device, the DVR-S04 allows consumers to quickly and easily transfer personal content from a VHS tape to a DVD disc, preserving content for years to come."
In addition to making it easier to transfer directly from VHS tape to DVD disc, Daewoo models like the DVR-S04 include LSI Logic's Direct Digital DubTM technology. Direct Digital Dub simplifies the transfer of personal digital content from a camcorder (DV or other media) to the DVD recorder over FireWire. Reducing complexity, Direct Digital Dub allows consumers to control the camcorder with one-touch via the DVD recorder remote.
"We are pleased to have a design win with Daewoo, a leading consumer electronics manufacturer," said Tim Vehling, director of marketing of Consumer Products for LSI Logic. "We are pleased that Daewoo has selected us to enable their DVD/VCR recorder product line, which will be available worldwide."
LSI Logic's line of DiMeNsion DVD recorder processors consists of the industry's first single-chip DVD recorder solutions. The high level of integration reduces design complexity and provides system designers with a considerable savings on the overall bill of materials. Additional advantages include LSI Logic's proprietary pre- and post-processing technologies, TrueViewTM Pro and TrueScanTM Pro. These motion compensation-based technologies provide advanced progressive scan output and impressive noise handling on analog inputs.
LSI Logic's Consumer Products Division provides innovative digital media processing and silicon solutions to industry-leading, worldwide consumer electronics manufacturers. With a complete line of cutting-edge products for DVD, DVR, EVD, video game, digital and HDTV, portable audio, set-top box, and professional video production/broadcasting devices, LSI Logic delivers entertainment into and throughout the Digital Home.
