LSI Logic Adds High Speed USB 2.0 Host Controller Core to IP Library
- Provides robust performance in a range of applications, supports all data transfer speed modes
- Designed for easy integration into a RapidChip® Platform ASIC or cell-based ASIC for fast SoC design
MILPITAS, Calif. - September 22, 2004 - LSI Logic Corporation (NYSE: LSI) today announced the immediate availability of the CW000026 USB 2.0 Host Controller core through the LSI Logic CoreWare® intellectual property (IP) library. Fully compliant with the USB 2.0 Enhanced Host Controller Interface (EHCI) Specification and supporting speeds up to 480 Mbps, the core can be customized and optimized to utilize the exceptional bandwidth of USB 2.0 to support a wide range of high-speed embedded systems including set-top boxes, digital TVs, DVD recorders and printers. The CW000026 is also designed for easy integration into a RapidChip® Platform ASIC or cell-based ASIC for fast SoC design.
"Our highly integrated USB 2.0 Host Controller core provides flexible, robust performance in a range of environments," said Harmel Sangha, Director of CoreWare Marketing and Customer Support, LSI Logic. "Designed for even the most demanding embedded and portable applications, our host controller core conforms to the latest USB standards and delivers high performance while optimizing memory usage and gate count."
The LSI Logic USB 2.0 Host Controller Core features an integrated transaction translating root hub, resulting in lower gate count and reduced software complexity, significantly reducing development time and system costs as compared to traditional EHCI-host controllers. The transaction translating root hub is configurable from 1 to 8 downstream ports. The USB 2.0 Host Controller can be easily bridged to any industry-standard bus and includes both the BVCI (Basic Virtual Component Interface) and AMBA AHB bus interfaces making it an excellent choice for embedded host applications. The core supports the UTMI+ (USB 2.0 Transceiver Macrocell Interface+) PHY interface and offers optional support for ULPI (UTMI+ Low Pin Interface) external PHY interface. When integrated with an LSI Logic high-performance USB 2.0 PHY, the core supports all USB 2.0 transfer speed modes: high-speed (480 Mbit/s), full-speed (12 Mbit/s) and low-speed (1.5 Mbit/s).
The LSI Logic USB CoreWare® family offers a complete set of silicon-proven, fully integrated USB solutions. LSI Logic's long history with USB technology has given it the knowledge and experience to implement USB interfaces on a wide range of ASIC and RapidChip platform ASIC designs. Combined with customer-designed logic, LSI Logic's proven USB transceiver I/Os, USB CoreWare digital cores, other CoreWare components, and new USB 2.0 and On-The-Go solutions allow designers to rapidly create Right-First-Time integrated USB solutions.
