D2 Technologies debuts vPORT, the VoIP software solution for the non-DSP SoC
Initial applications for vPort include cost-sensitive products such as Analog Telephone Adaptors (ATA), residential voice gateways, IP/Ethernet/WiFi phones and other VoIP-enabled consumer products. "Our vPort solution is targeted at Internet end-point devices," says D2 president, David Wong. "Highly optimized in CPU and memory utilization. vPort provides substantial advantages in cost and power over multi-core or multi-chip VoIP products. It also simplifies software development, support, and maintenance because all of the software operates under a single operating environment using one set of tools," according to Wong.
Works with the Infineon ADM5120 Network Processor
One of the first semiconductor companies to offer vPort technology is Infineon Technologies. "The software further enhances the capabilities of the ADM5120 Home Network Processor, which aims at SOHO (Small Office/Home Office) and SME (Small and Medium Enterprise) VoIP applications," notes Tony Chang, Managing Director for Customer Premises Equipment at Infineon’s Wireline Communications Business Group. "Our customers will benefit from having more choices in designing the products for VoIP applications with the 5120" he adds.
vPort Software is Designed For Portability
vPort can execute on both RISC and CISC platforms under standard operating systems, such as LINUX, and real-time operating systems. It is currently available on both ARM- and MIPS-based architectures under the VxWorks and LINUX operating systems. Because of its modular vOpen architecture, vPort can be quickly modified for customer-specific applications and runtime platforms.
vPort software runs out-of-the-box on a number of ARM and MIPS based reference hardware platforms for several target applications such as ATA, WiFi phones and home routers. The software package includes reference application software, voice signaling protocols (SIP, MGCP, or H.323), packetizing (RTP, Jitter Buffer), voice processing (echo cancellation, voice compression, DTMF, etc.) and reference hardware-specific drivers (for audio and/or telephony devices).
For products that require a telephone or PSTN interface, D2 supports devices from a number of leading vendors that have SLIC/CODEC/DAA chips. D2 provides drivers and interfaces for leading telephony devices from Infineon. If a target SOC does not have the appropriate interface to these devices, D2 also has the necessary software for a Xilinx PLD to do the serial/parallel translation.
A typical product based on vPort might include some or all of the following voice features, available from D2:
- SIP/H.323/MGCP Signaling Protocol
- RTP Packetizing
- Adaptive Jitter Buffer
- G.729AB/G.723.1A/G.711/G.726 Voice Compression
- DTMF/CP Tone Generation/Detection
- DTMF Relay
- VAD/Silence Compression
- Packet Loss Compensation
- G168 Echo Canceller
- Acoustic Echo Cancellation or Full Duplex Speakerphone
- T.38 FAX Relay
Developer's Kit is Available
A developer’s kit that includes vPort software and developer’s manuals is available now at a cost of $40,000.
