GDA Technologies announces plans for Intel IXP23XX product line- based Reference Design Kit
The GDA Technologies’ Reference Design Kit will be a PCI adapter card and will consist of an Intel® IXP23XX network processor subsystem with 128MB of SDRAM on microengine port, 32MB SDRAM on control plane port, flash memory and QDR II SRAM. To provide network connectivity, two Gigabit ports and an OC-12 media interface will be designed into the board hardware. In addition, for manageability, bring-up support and software development, one RS232 and one 10/100 Ethernet port will also be available on the design.
The GDA reference design kit is an ideal platform for embedded developers, Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) and system integrators who want a flexible development environment around the Intel® IXP2325 and Intel® IXP2350 network processors for access and edge application. The high-performance NPU architecture provides processing headroom to support applications from DSLAMs to wireless infrastructure to wireless LAN aggregation switches to VPN Firewalls.
GDA’s prior experience and expertise with Intel® IXP2400 and Intel® IXP2800 network processor- based hardware design and micro-code development means GDA’s customers now have a wider choice of design platforms. The consistent Intel® IXP2XXX software and hardware architecture helps to protect development investment and speed deployment of a broad product portfolio.
“GDA is committed to continuing to invest in Intel® IXP2XXX network processor-based designs. The IXP23XX network processor-based kit will be the third reference design kit from GDA around Intel network processor product lines, “said Gopa Periyadan, Vice President of System and Software Design Services at GDA Technologies. “Our goal is to help Intel’s customers reduce cost, risk and time-to-market while they design products and systems around these processors.”
“Network equipment vendors are always looking for ways to minimize development time while adding new services,” said Frank Schapfel, network processor product line marketing manager, Intel Infrastructure Processor Division. “The GDA PCI adapter board based on our new network processors will help our customers evaluate and begin the design of IXP23XX network processor-based systems that can support line rates up to 2 Gbps.”
The new Reference Design Kit will support Embedded Linux operating system and GDA will also offer its embedded software services for porting other popular embedded operating systems. In addition, GDA will create a valuable debug and diagnostics software tool around the IXP23XX network processors. This tool will provide a basic boot monitor along with extensive diagnostic routines and loop-back tests and will allow customers to shorten debug and test cycle time.
Intel network processor customers can also utilize the engineering design services offered by GDA for systems, boards, PCB layouts, SOC development, ASICs, FPGAs and IPs to customize this new GDA reference design for their specific access and edge applications. The GDA design package connects customers to the best design resources for their specific engineering, software development and validation requirements.
