Accelerated Technology's Nucleus RTOS Now Available for Mobile Wireless Developers Using the Freescale i.MX21 Applications Processor
MOBILE, Ala., October 27, 2004 - Accelerated Technology®, a Mentor Graphics division (Nasdaq: MENT), today announced support for the i.MX family of applications processors from Freescale Semiconductor Inc., (NYSE: FSL) beginning with the Nucleus® real-time operating system (RTOS) support for the i.MX21 multimedia applications processor. Embedded developers using the Nucleus RTOS and the i.MX21 processor will now have a royalty-free solution in which to build wireless and multimedia applications including smartphones, wireless personal digital assistants (PDAs), mobile gaming, portable media players and many other mobile wireless applications.
The demand continues to soar for richer graphics, longer video playback time and Universal Serial Bus (USB) On-The-Go (OTG) features in smart handheld devices. To meet these needs, the i.MX21 multimedia applications processor, based on ARM® core technology, offers developers the ability to design robust multimedia applications with higher levels of video and graphics capabilities, plug-and-play connectivity and "Smart Speed" power management for longer battery life.
On the software side, demanding mobile wireless applications require a portable and scalable RTOS as well as a robust and reliable software platform. The Nucleus RTOS combines all of these features to give developers a flexible, high performance software foundation from which to build complex multimedia applications. A variety of Nucleus middleware components are available to i.MX21 developers including the Nucleus Point-to-Point Protocol (PPP) software, the Nucleus FILE file management software, the Nucleus EMAIL package, the Nucleus WebServ embedded Web server and the Nucleus GRAFIX portable graphics package. Each is tightly integrated and has the same source code, royalty-free business model.
"Accelerated Technology fills a key role as a member of our developer community," said Monica Hamilton, Global Strategic Alliances, Freescale Semiconductor. "In addition to the Nucleus real-time operating system, Accelerated Technology offers a broad portfolio of embedded development and prototyping tools that can help bridge the gap between the EDA and embedded worlds. This will give our i.MX21 customers an important time-to-market advantage."
"The Nucleus RTOS has been very successful in the mobile wireless market. The next generation of wireless devices will greatly benefit from the familiar RTOS API with the extended application support and processor features provided by the combination of i.MX21 and the Nucleus middleware," said Robert Day, director of marketing, Embedded Systems Division, Mentor Graphics.
Pricing and Availability
The Nucleus embedded software is sold with source code and without royalty fees. Licenses for the Nucleus software begin at $12,495 US. For more information, please contact Accelerated Technology at 800-468-6853.
