Datang Expands Its ZSP Cores Licensing Agreement with LSI Logic for Use in 3G Wireless Applications
- ZSP architecture provides Datang with the best DSP core to address 3G wireless applications and scalable roadmap
- Datang selects ZSP540 for its quad-MAC performance with power/size efficiencies of a dual-MAC DSP
MILPITAS, Calif. - November 30, 2004 - LSI Logic Corporation (NYSE: LSI) today announced that Datang Technology Co., Ltd, a wholly owned subsidiary of Datang Telecom Technology and one of the largest telecommunications equipment manufacturers in China, has extended its licensing agreement with LSI Logic to include the ZSP540 digital signal processor (DSP) for use in its 3G wireless applications. Datang selected the ZSP540 core for its unique ability to deliver quad-MAC capabilities at the system cost of a dual-MAC core, low power consumption and best-in-class code density, making it ideal for the demands of high bandwidth 3G baseband processing with media-rich applications. Datang will also use the ZSP core in a number of other applications that require cost-effective, high performance parallel DSP compute performance.
Having gained market success using the ZSP400 core in its COMIP platform, Datang is augmenting its DSP processing solutions with the ZSP540, which allows immediate usability in 3G wireless designs. The ZSP540, like all cores in the ZSP family of licensable, industry-standard processors, can run software written for other ZSP cores, providing a scalable path for core selection with maximum design reusability.
"The ZSP architecture and cores selection provide us with competitive solutions to address our processing requirements as we continue to drive our leadership in the wireless handset market in China," said Zhao Lun, CEO of Datang Microelectronics. "The ZSP540 core provides optimal system cost and outstanding signal processing capabilities that are required for baseband and applications processing tasks in 3G wireless applications."
The ZSP540 leverages world-class software development tool chains, SoC design tools and comprehensive suites of readily available software for voice processing, audio/video multimedia applications and more. The ZSP540 is also equipped with the Z.Turbo( accelerator feature allowing SoC designers to further accelerate the processor performance through instruction set extension or coprocessor implementation.
Tuan Dao, vice president of the LSI Logic DSP Products Division, added, "We are pleased to extend our partnership with Datang to include the license of the ZSP540 core, which offers a unique balance of performance, power and system cost to address the 3G wireless handset market. It is also rewarding to have repeat business with company like Datang. Repeat business is testimony to the scalability and best-in-class capabilities of our ZSP technology."
