Upgrade to Accelerated Technology's Nucleus Point-to-Point Protocol Software Benefits Embedded Networking Developers
The Nucleus PPP software has been enhanced with multi-link PPP support as per RFC1990 to provide for increased data throughput. For example, with multi-link PPP support, two PPP links can act as one virtual link, which provides twice the throughput performance. This is beneficial for developers who want to increase the performance of their PPP-enabled products. In order to provide Nucleus developers with a PPP solution that is ready for future Nucleus networking protocols, integrated hooks have been added allowing support for future protocols.
The Nucleus PPP software upgrade also offers support for Microsoft PPP Challenge Handshake Authentication Protocol (CHAP) extensions version 1 and version 2. The PPP CHAP extensions increase authentication security over the original CHAP specification. This upgrade extends the Nucleus PPP software by providing increased compatibility with Microsoft Windows as per Microsoft specifications (RFC 2433 & RFC2759).
The final feature added to the Nucleus PPP software upgrade is support for Microsoft Direct Cable Connection Protocol. This protocol allows developers to create PPP connections between the Nucleus kernel and the Windows OS without the need for a modem or a phone line, since the requirement of a modem or phone can be both costly and cumbersome during the development cycle.
"With the addition of new protocols such as multi-link PPP and the Microsoft CHAP extensions, the Nucleus PPP software's feature list continues to grow. This additional support complements our recently released Nucleus NET software upgrade to meet the requirements of today's and tomorrow's connected devices," said Robert Day, director of marketing, Embedded Systems Division, Mentor Graphics.
