Skyworks Integrates StarCore's Processor Technology
Digital Signal Processor a Key Building Block for New Wireless Products
Woburn, MA and Austin, TX, Jan. 31, 2005 – Skyworks Solutions, Inc. (NASDAQ: SWKS) the industry's leading wireless semiconductor company focused on radio frequency (RF) and complete cellular system solutions for mobile communications applications, and StarCore, a leader in the development of high-performance processor architectures, announced today that Skyworks will utilize StarCore’s technology for deployment in its GPRS, EDGE and WCDMA baseband platforms. Skyworks is enabling and delivering integrated semiconductor solutions that are driving cell phone capabilities from basic voice services and monochrome displays to full-color screens, built-in cameras, MP3 functionality and other multimedia features, by meeting rigorous system requirements and focusing on size, battery life, system performance and ease of implementation.
“Skyworks is pleased to be working with StarCore to enable tomorrow’s wireless functionality,” said Greg Waters, vice president and general manager of Cellular Systems for Skyworks. “By leveraging StarCore’s family of processors within our product solutions, Skyworks is accelerating development of digital baseband products, which provide high performance modem and multimedia applications, while minimizing power consumption.”
“Skyworks and its customers will greatly benefit from this collaborative effort,” said Faheem Hayat, senior director of VLSI Engineering at Skyworks. “We are excited about StarCore’s latest technology enhancements and aggressive roadmap. The advantages of StarCore’s variable length execution set (VLES) architecture, coupled with our accelerated development path, has enabled us to define a product with high code density and efficient performance that meets our customer’s expectations in a timely manner.”
“StarCore is thrilled that Skyworks has selected our processor technology for use in their highly-integrated complete system solution,” said Alex Bedarida, general manager, StarCore LLC. “This agreement underscores our extensive work in making StarCore’s leading-edge, licensable processor technology the most easily adoptable solution.”
StarCore’s licensable processor cores and subsystems help meet the ever-increasing performance demands of communications and consumer products on digital basebands. In addition, StarCore’s platforms are scalable, synthesizable and available with performance levels from 200 MHz to more than 500 MHz. Scalability gives systems designers the option of using processor cores from a broad, software-compatible family in multiple applications, which in turn reduces the amount of code that needs to be developed, accelerates time to market and minimizes overall complexity. Synthesizability promotes manufacturing flexibility and provides system designers with a variety of product development options.
Skyworks currently delivers complete, high performance, cost effective wireless system solutions that meet the market demands of handset OEMs and ODMs worldwide. The company offers the Pegasus™ GPRS Platform, combining GPRS Class 10 and multimedia functionality with simplified integration to substantially reduce development and production time while meeting market demands. This platform is ideal for manufacturers looking to bring multimedia handsets to market today.
