LSI Logic Launches ZSP Foundry Program; Broadens Access to DSP Technology for Fabless Semiconductor Companies
- Program introduces separate licenses for design and manufacturing for ZSP cores to reduce barriers-to-entry for companies requiring flexible DSP technology
- Fabless semiconductor companies and OEMs can leverage the already characterized hard cores to gain time-to-market advantages
MILPITAS, Calif. - January 31, 2005 - LSI Logic Corporation (NYSE: LSI) today launched the ZSP® Foundry Program allowing fabless semiconductor companies and OEMs around the world broader access to the popular ZSP® digital signal processing technology.
A design-only license gives fabless customers the rights to complete a design with the ZSP core at the participating foundry of their choice. A manufacturing license allows semiconductor foundries to offer high-performance, low-power signal processing solutions to their customers for wireless, consumer and networking applications. Customers benefit from significantly reduced risk, investment and time-to-market.
"The ZSP Foundry Program addresses the growing need for OEMS and fabless semiconductor companies to have access to suites of well-established intellectual property and leading edge manufacturing processes," said Will Strauss, president of Forward Concepts in Tempe, Ariz . "By offering the design-only license for ZSP, LSI Logic further reduces the cost of entry, allowing companies to get to market more quickly and efficiently with its proven ZSP technology."
"We have seen a considerable increase in the licensing of ZSP cores in emerging markets such as China and we believe there is a larger audience that would benefit from the proven ZSP technology," said George Liao, director of business development, Asia Pacific DSP Division. "Through this program we will enable customers who need fast access to the cores on proven processes, but don't have the resources or requirements for a fully flexible ZSP license."
The ZSP400 and ZSP500 cores will be the first of many cores available in the program. The ZSP400 is an extremely efficient dual-MAC DSP suited to a wide range of applications from audio coding and decoding to voice over packet systems. The ZSP500 is a high performance signal processing solution for applications including multimedia and 3G wireless baseband processing.
