Legerity Selects StarCore Technology to Power Its Next Generation VoIP and FTTP Products
The StarCore technology provides Legerity a state-of-the-art DSP and tools – significantly enhancing the industry leader’s capabilities
AUSTIN, TEXAS and SAN JOSE, CALIF. – March 8, 2005 - Legerity Incorporated, the world’s dominant supplier and innovator of voice interface solutions, and StarCore LLC, a leading provider of licensable processor solutions, today announced at Spring VON 2005 that Legerity has licensed the StarCore’s Digital Signal Processing (DSP) technology for use in IP communication applications. The Starcore technology will enable Legerity to expand its industry-leading portfolio of voice ICs. The company plans to utilize its experience and expertise in analog and mixed-signal applications to enter new markets with product offerings in both wired and wireless VoIP. The first Legerity products based on the StarCore technology are expected to be released in the second half of 2005. “The flexibility and performance of the StarCore technology enables us to more quickly respond to our customer’s ever increasing feature-set requirements and performance needs while decreasing their overall system cost,” said Shoaib Mohammad, Legerity’s director of corporate business development. “StarCore technology provides an essential building block for our next generation of VoIP products.” Legerity, the incumbent provider of voice interface circuitry in the Fiber To The Premise (FTTP) market, also plans to use StarCore technology to further enhance its Voice Control Processor (VCP) and highly acclaimed line test diagnostic algorithms in upcoming VoIP products.
“Legerity is really flexing its muscles with this new StarCore license,” said Will Strauss, founder and president of Forward Concepts. “This is a smart move for the company. Legerity has already shipped hundreds of millions of devices based on DSP technology and this deal will allow them to strengthen their current product portfolio and provide them with the capability to branch out into new markets." Legerity is the world’s number one supplier of voice IC solutions, with a customer base of more than 200 of the world’s premier communications product manufacturers. Legerity’s chip sets are utilized in more reference designs for VoIP products than any other company’s chip sets, truly making Legerity the “V” in VoIPTM. Since inception, Legerity has shipped in excess of 400M DSP-based semiconductor products in voice interface applications around the world.
“Legerity’s decision to license StarCore technology for future generations of communication solutions is a strong endorsement for the performance and value proposition of our products,” said Alex Bedarida, general manager of StarCore. “The StarCore architecture’s ability to handle control code provides the efficiency and additional flexibility required for future voice products. Adding StarCore processor technology to its technology portfolio strengthens Legerity’s position in the marketplace and demonstrates its decision to provide innovative solutions to its customers.”
