Amazon Web Services Names Intrinsic ID Advanced Tier Technology Partner in AWS Partner Network
Delivers unclonable device identities, meeting critical requirement for AWS
SUNNYVALE, Calif. – Nov. 28, 2017 – Intrinsic ID®, one of the world’s leading providers of digital authentication technology for Internet of Things (IoT) security and embedded applications, announced today it has been recognized as an Advanced tier Technology Partner in the Amazon Web Services (AWS) Partner Network (APN). This designation recognizes Intrinsic ID for its ability to deliver unclonable device identities, a requirement AWS has stated as critical to its cloud services.
Intrinsic ID technology derives unclonable identities for devices connected to the Internet of Things. Its authentication software modules, such as the SPARTAN CLOUD product, utilize its device-unique keys to provide such devices an authenticated connection with AWS.
“AWS delivers business productivity and a variety of hosted services, and requires strong thing identities to protect the integrity of its cloud services. This aligns perfectly with Intrinsic ID’s approach to IoT security,” said Pim Tuyls, chief executive officer at Intrinsic ID. “By providing unclonable device identities, we provide the confidence of an extra layer of security to cloud service providers and their customers.”
During an AWS Loft presentation in San Francisco in June 2017, three AWS requirements for IoT were noted: fine-grained authorization for things and people, secure communications with things and strong thing identities. Intrinsic ID technology addresses these requirements by leveraging a semiconductor’s unique physical properties to derive an unclonable device identity which can be used as a secret key in cryptographic protocols that guarantee and prove authenticity of data and devices.
Intrinsic ID’s approach offers several advantages over alternative technologies such as key injection and secure elements:
- Flexibility: software IP is deployable on any microprocessor or other system on a chip (SoC), including devices already in the field
- Security: no secrets are injected during manufacturing
- Economy: no hardware changes or additional silicon are required
“Our approach brings trusted security across a range of applications – banking, military, government and IoT,” Tuyls said. “We remove the question of ‘should we add security?’ by making it affordable.”
Intrinsic ID’s device authentication technology can secure IoT devices across the world. Industries which will benefit from Intrinsic ID technology include cable network providers, data center operators, utilities operating grids of connected smart meters, automotive, finance, medical devices, industrial IoT and wearables.
