Siano Mobile Silicon Targets Mobile Digital TV Market Using ARC's Configurable Processor Technology
Small, Low Power ARC™ 600 Core Powering an Increasing Number of High-Volume Wireless Applications
ELSTREE, England April 19, 2005 – ARC International (LSE: ARK), the world leader in configurable CPU/DSP processor cores and application subsystems, today announced that Siano Mobile Silicon has taken a license for a configurable ARC™ 610D processor core with ARC’s XY Advanced DSP. The company will use its ARC license to develop the new SMS1000 mobile digital TV receiver chip, which is scheduled for introduction later this year and is targeted at a range of products delivering mobile TV services to consumers. These include mobile phones, PDAs, portable multi-media and DVD players, laptops, in-car TVs, portable game consoles and digital still and video cameras. Siano’s SMS1000 chip is designed to overcome the challenges of power consumption, mobile reception, cellular hand-offs and single-antenna reception in a small form factor. ARC’s configurable processor provides a low power solution that performs both general purpose and DSP processing functions in a single, unified architecture. This ensures Siano’s designers will have a highly integrated, power efficient ARC-Based™ SoC that meets the demands of the cost-sensitive mobile TV market. “ARC presented the best fit for our needs in terms of power consumption and firmware flexibility,” said Guy Shochet, Siano’s chief technology officer. “While our solution is mostly a hardware machine, we needed a flexible programmable engine to accommodate the expected evolution of standards, while consuming less power and less silicon area.” “An increasing number of companies, such as Siano Mobile Silicon, are finding ARC’s configurable technology to be an excellent match for the demands of wireless applications,” said Derek Meyer, vice president of marketing at ARC International. “Siano’s choice of an ARC 600 core further underscores how our technology is unmatched in its ability to enable highly cost-effective solutions for consumer applications.” ARC™ 610D Processor Core The ARC 610D processor core is a best-in-class, 32-bit CPU/DSP core for embedded processing. The 610D core is ideal for SoC applications that include conventional computation and signal processing algorithms. The core is designed for hard, real-time processing, where high speed and deterministic response are required. Powerful and flexible DSP options enable the 610D core to perform more functions, which eliminate separate logic or DSP blocks from the SoC. ARC XY Advanced DSP ARC’s XY Advanced DSP adds the power of a true DSP engine to ARC CPU cores, enabling conventional and signal processing computation within a single unified architecture. ARC XY Advanced DSP may be applied to most of the cores within the ARC 600 and ARC 700 families. About ARC ARC International is a world leader in low-power, high-performance 32-bit configurable CPU/DSP processor cores, subsystems, real-time operating systems and development tools for embedded system design.
