Interface Board Design Relies on LatticeEC FPGAsEngineering Services Firm Impressed with Device Cost, Performance, Migration Path HILLSBORO, OR - JULY 11, 2005 - Lattice Semiconductor Corporation (NASDAQ: LSCC) today announced that engineering services firm Boston Engineering Corporation has incorporated the LatticeEC™ FPGA in the design of an interface board for a high-end test system. The board is a VME-based interface that is a high-speed digital pattern generator and also provides general-purpose analog and digital I/O. The LatticeEC FPGA provides a slave interface to the VME bus master and also provides control to the external analog-to-digital converters, digital-to-analog converters, SRAM and general purpose digital I/O. The LatticeEC device performs all the digital pattern execution locally in order to meet speed requirements. The FPGA contains registers for looping, triggers, breakpoints, single stepping and managed patterns stored in external memory. Guy Fichera, Electrical Engineering Manager for Boston Engineering, said, "As FPGA prices continue to fall, we are looking more frequently for programmable logic design solutions. I had not used the Lattice FPGAs before. However, our customer specified the Lattice devices, and I was pleasantly surprised by how easily and quickly we were able to come up to speed on the LatticeEC FPGA. The design software was easy to use, and the local Lattice support was outstanding. We were able to move the design from one density level to another with no change in the FPGA footprint. In the end, each test system uses 75 LatticeEC devices, supporting up to 2000 test channels."
