Infineon's Multimedia Phone Platform for GSM/GPRS Used in Latest Mobile Phones of Panasonic Mobile CommunicationsMunich, Germany – August 8, 2005 – Infineon Technologies AG (FSE/NYSE: IFX) today announced that its GSM/GPRS multimedia reference design platform has been selected by Panasonic Mobile Communications Co., Ltd. The MP1-G multimedia platform brings 3-band functionality, camera functionality, polyphonic-ring tones, color displays and Java capability to mid-range mobile phones. Featuring all hardware and software components required for camera-capable phones, the new MP1-G platform offers numerous benefits for mobile phone manufacturers with respect to time-to-market, functionality and adaptability. The MP1-G reference design platform features Infineon’s state-of-the-art GSM/GPRS chip hardware consisting of the baseband processor S-GOLDlite™ with integrated Java Accelerator, the CMOS single-chip radio frequency (RF) transceiver SMARTi SD and the power management chip SMPower1.6. The software part covers all required modules from lowest level through protocol stack and is rounded off by an additional software layer APOXI® (Application Programmable Object-Oriented Extendable Interface) enabling the mobile phone manufacturer to reuse software applications over several mobile phone generations or to easily adopt a mobile handset model to the menu navigation requirements of different operators or language needs of different regions.
