Silicon Image Announces Industry's First Receiver to Incorporate Features of HDMI 1.2 Specification
HDMI has emerged as the de facto digital interface standard for the consumer electronics market, delivering secure audio and video transmission. The latest HDMI specification, HDMI v1.2, adds a number of important features that contribute to the ongoing evolution of the standard. By delivering crystal-clear, all-digital audio and video quality via a single cable, HDMI dramatically simplifies cabling and helps provide consumers with the highest-quality home theater experience. "HDMI is becoming the dominant standard in consumer electronics for high quality video and audio transmission and the latest iteration, adding SACD support, continues to extend HDMI's appeal," stated Danielle Levitas, vice president, Consumer and Broadband Markets at IDC. "New HDMI 1.2-enabled A/V receivers indicate continued momentum towards the vision of a completely digitally connected home theater from source to display." The SACD format was developed by Sony and Philips Electronics and is an enhanced audio standard that allows for higher resolution of music, resulting in remarkably faithful and pure audio reproduction. In addition to enhanced sound quality, the SACD format can accommodate more than four times the information of current CD formats, allowing multimedia, multi-channel data to be stored on CDs. With the introduction of the first SACD enabled HDMI receiver to incorporate HDMI v1.2, Silicon Image continues to provide leadership in supporting the evolution of the market for HDMI," explains Rob Frizzell, senior marketing manager, Silicon Image. "The SiI 9033 is the third generation of HDMI receivers produced by Silicon Image, at an even lower cost than the previous generation, which demonstrates a remarkable amount of progress in a short period of time. Ultimately, consumers benefit from this ongoing progress towards the purest multimedia experience." The SiI 9033 is targeted at consumer electronics manufacturers developing AV Receivers and Media Receivers. It is a dual-input receiver, which is backwards compatible with the earlier generation SiI 9031 but adds SACD support on top of DVD-Audio. High-quality digital audio up to 8-channel, 192kHz can be output on its four I2S outputs. High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection™ (HDCP) Repeater functionality is integrated into the device as well as embedded HDCP keys, providing the most secure environment at the lowest cost. All past and present Silicon Image receivers continue to be compliant with the stringent electrical requirements of HDMI v1.2. Pricing and Availability The SiI 9033 will begin sampling in October. Pricing is available upon request. Please contact Silicon Image at www.siliconimage.com for more information.
