Accelerated Technology Targets High Performance, Low-Cost Applications with New Support for ARM Cortex-M3 ProcessorMOBILE, Ala. - December 1, 2005 - Accelerated Technology®, a Mentor Graphics division (Nasdaq: MENT), today announced that the Nucleus® PLUS Real-Time Operating System (RTOS) is now available for developers using the ARM® Cortex™-M3 microprocessor. This provides developers using the Cortex-M3 processor with an integrated environment for designing cost-sensitive embedded applications including automotive body systems and networking devices. The Cortex-M3 processor provides a high-performance, low-cost platform that is especially well suited for applications requiring greater performance than that provided by 8-bit and 16-bit processors. Such applications are typically price sensitive and are the same types of applications for which the royalty-free Nucleus RTOS is ideally suited. Together this software/hardware combination provides an optimal platform to help accelerate the migration of thousands of global applications from legacy components to 32-bit microcontrollers. Device developers essentially receive a free hardware upgrade since the Cortex-M3 processor is similar in price to 16-bit parts. "Accelerated Technology was among the first to support both our IEM technology and to have a functioning RTOS on the Cortex M-3 processor," said John Cornish, vice president product marketing, Processor Division, ARM. "Together ARM and Accelerated Technology are enabling an ecosystem of ARM Powered® products early in the adoption of our new technologies, eliminating some of the customer risk normally associated with adopting new solutions." "Studies show that developers using 8-bit and 16-bit processors are steadily upgrading to 32-bit processors," said Glen Johnson, product manager, Accelerated Technology Division, Mentor Graphics. "In the Cortex-M3, ARM has provided an ideal upgrade path for these developers. Because of its minimal memory requirements, ease-of-use and friendly business model, the Nucleus software is the perfect RTOS for these users. Together these products provide an ideal solution for tomorrow's embedded devices." This ARM processor is the first member of the Cortex family of CPU cores and underlines ARM's strategy of delivering technology around targeted market applications and performance requirements. The ARM Cortex family enables chip manufacturers and OEMs to standardize around a single architecture from low-end microcontrollers to high-performance applications processors with Thumb®-2 technology, significantly reducing development costs and increasing enterprise efficiency.
