Xilinx Places Trust in GE and Its Own Devices for Global SecurityCompany deploys GE’s latest technology – powered by Xilinx chips – in facilities throughout the world SAN JOSE, Calif.,—December 19, 2005— Xilinx, Inc. (NASDAQ:XLNX) today announced that GE’s latest PXNplus CPU Security Platform, enabled by Xilinx Spartan™-3 FPGAs, will provide building security for all Xilinx global locations. Xilinx, as an early adopter of GE’s newest security platform, recently completed a seamless integration of the new equipment in its San Jose headquarters. The company plans to expand the system into an integrated global security platform to secure its facilities throughout North America, Asia and Europe. The CPU serves as the interface between GE’s Picture Perfect® security cameras and building access card readers, alarm system, emergency generators and temperature control. Xilinx low-cost Spartan-3 FPGAs, combined with its leading MicroBlaze™ soft processor core, act as the main processor on the board. As the industry’s first access control CPU with flash memory, the PXNPlus supports direct communications over a TCP/IP network. Because of its FPGA-enabled flexible architecture, the platform can be upgraded with additional features to anticipate security needs of the future. “Xilinx FPGAs are at the heart of the system, controlling all communications on the board. The Spartan-3 devices, MicroBlaze soft processor core, and ISE design tools provided the ideal solution, combining low cost and ease of use with ultimate flexibility,” said Richard Terrill, senior manager of High Volume Products at Xilinx. “At installation, users can simply plug in downstream components without having to configure them separately. When it’s time for updates, they can deploy them over the network as well – this is due to the flexible architecture enabled by the use of our FPGAs.” “GE’s system is clearly one of the most robust integrated security systems in the industry and we’re delighted to incorporate our own leading-edge technology to protect our facilities throughout the globe,” said Ron Pennington, manager of Corporate Security at Xilinx. “The GE system is especially effective in an enterprise environment such as ours. We look forward to working with RFI, our integrator, to incorporate the benefits of this new product into our system on a worldwide basis.” About Xilinx Low Cost FPGAs About Xilinx
